Hi I've got a a3 tdi 2.0
04
& so has my friend

He had told me to ask

He had his mot & after he seemed to think his engine has got louder on tickover?
I've put my car next to his & it is louder but fine when moving.
You can hear tickover in the car unlike mine

Now what could this be? Any ideas??

I know MOT is different here, but was there any work carried out on the car?

As far as I'm aware the only thing they do for an MOT is run the engine for emissions purposes (apart from all the other checks obviously !).

There should be no reason why the car sounds any different.

Tickover is much noisier when the car is cold so could this be the reason ?

Passed first time. No advisorys.

Both with warm engines. 90 degree engines.
Think he has just had a coolant change mind & said it just sits below 90 Mark.

That maybe a better mix of coolant, as people add all kinds of coolant to top up, I use a 50/50 mix & always sticks at 90 even in 40-50 heat in italy.

For me its just his hearing as unless they did anyother work to the car whilst on mot, then nothing they would touch to affect the car, unless they're unscrupulous & caused an issue to get more work, only you know the test station to know what the likeliness of that is.
