I've just been told about thewell known diesel particulate filter problem............

........ie some filter blocking up and costing a fortune. My friend told me to run the car at 4k revs for 10 minutes every so often to stop it blocking up.

Anyone add anything to this. Its the first i've heard.

2005 A32.0 tdi.
 
It really depends on how much you drive the car, and what sort of journeys your doing.

If your doing 20 miles a week, town driving, then you may have to do something. If your doing 10k+ on motorways, you should be fine. If you drive a 140 BHP then you likely don't even have it.

Its the 140 BHP model, yes. How will i know if i have it?
 
If your car is a 2005 2.0TDI 140bhp then it will not have a DPF.

Originally only the 170bhp versions had the DPF until the latest common-rail engines were introduced when it was added to the 140bhp versions as well.

You have nothing to worry about on the DPF front.
