    Recommendations from Audi Health Check - should I be worried?

    My car has 62'000 on the clock and it just went to Audi because it started making an odd noise at idle. They investigated and found that it was the alternator pulley, which they changed and (swallow) Ł350 later the noise is no more and my car is running beautifully again.

    However, Audi put the following recommendations on their health check report: -
    i) Oil leak from EGR valve, req new valve and gaskets Ł243
    ii) Turbo leaking oil. Reg new turbo and nuts and gaskets Ł1,225
    iii) Recommend new turbo oil feed and return pipes Ł295
    iv) Front intercooler pipe seals are leaking. req new seals and cleaner Ł90

    How seriously should I take this? It doesn't seem to drink an unusual amount of oil, so I'm guessing the leaks are pretty small. What should I do next?

    i would take note what they have said but wouldnt let them do work as it can be done for alot cheaper plus some jobs mite not even need doing and you could just put them to the back of your head till you get some money together just put it away each week so you dont just have to find it all nowthats what id do especaily if car seemed fine so what if seals go or turbo goes in the meantime youve planed to replace anyway so tll that time comes just save lol

    I have just had a recon turbo incl. all new pipes ( your items ii and iii ) Ł625 plus VAT. at a VAG independent !

    Guaranteed 12 months

    The turbo's do leak a little oil into the charge pressure systems, all VAG diesels do, as for the intercooler pipes sweating oil, that's also normal!
    If your engine isn't drinking oil and the leaks aren't leaving large oil deposits then don't fret about it.
    Only thing to check on the turbo is the amount of play in the spindle bearings, there is a tiny amount but a large amount is bad and will cause the turbo and the seals to break causing internal engine damage.

    How did you discover that the turbo needed replacing? Was it drinking/leaking a lot of oil? Good to know that a recon and piping can be had at 50% the cost!

    That's very reassuring to hear. As the car gets older and gains more miles i'm less keen to spend money on it. That said, it's a brilliant car and I'd like to keep it until it becomes uneconomical to repair.

    Well a few years ago i got my corrado serviced with VW they said an engine mount had play in it ?, in reality they should of said it needed changed. As 2 months later it broke completly one night when i "was pushing on" and before i made it to the garage next door the oil filter gave way (as it was resting on the cross member) and leaked all the oil out meaning i had to spend lots of money on an engine rebuild.

    So the moral of the story is, if a garage warns you of parts that are wearing, get them changed but maybe at a local cheaper garage

    After hard acceleration in 2nd (not too hard though) it started whistling a lot louder. Thought a boost pipe may have popped off so took it to my indie. They did a smoke test for leaks and there weren't any !

    If the turbo blows it can rip the rest of the engine apart so I phoned my warranty people and told them. They said they would pay (their contractual amount ) so I got it done.
