Spring and shock kits for the SB sport on 19's

I been looking at a few different spring and shocks kits for my car which is dire need of lowering and a more comfortable ride. My budget is £400, for this I would only get a set of Vmaxx or AP coilovers and I read that the shocks and springs are better in terms of comfort than collies, I'm sure most of you know how crashy sport/ s line suspension is! Mine is a sport.

Here's the kits I found with a decent drop in my price range, and a pic of roughly how I want it to look without rubbing if possible, as I'm running 235/35/19 toyos on the back and conti sport up front. Also a couple pics of the current 'Allroad' stance :undwech:

I'm wondering which kit will produce the the most comfortable ride and best driving experience :racer:

Also looked at these which I suppose will be good considering how highly their coilovers are rated, but not sure 40mm will be enough? Although the RS3 is 40mm with 19's and looks very nice.

Hi you got your car back yet? As you know I am also looking into dropping my a3.are coilovers overall better for a comfortable ride?
 
No because TPS screwed up with a few bits (they sent damaged skirt, then wrong lock carrier and headlamp switch, 3dr door mouldings, arggghhhh!) They've messed up on a few parts now that I've given part no's for, if I wasn't getting them cheaper than usual I'd have gone somewhere else! Will still use TPS just another branch in future...

Anyway, I have been told and read that shocks and springs give a better ride than coilovers in general. So if your not bothered about adjusting height then I'd also look at springs and shocks. Any new pics of your one yet?
 
Sorry to hear that as am sure your eager to get it complete.wats tps price for side skirts? Guys I gave mine to dint need lock carrier I think. So u putting the new switch inside too? Mine works like this with old switch : auto: does leds n headlights as auto would.then sidelights is leds and full does them all. Will look Into shocks lad which ones do we have to go 4 wit the sb?only fear of springs is not getting the right drop and going thru the hasstle of returning them. Put s line badge on front grill and black ones on wings.will put pics up when I get some time during day
 
It's a pita when they get things wrong and you've given part numbers!

When you turn your sidelights on your rear lights also come on. Not that it's much of a big deal but the LED DRL's are supposed to run without the rears being on. The switch was £48 and I'm sure I can sell my old one that has coming home light switch on for a few quid so cheap upgrade. I wasn't sure that the lock carrier would be needed, will cancel that then.

You need to check your strut diameter should be 55mm then you can choose according to drop u want etc. I want mine to sit like the RS3 or maybe a tad lower that's a 40mm drop from standard but getting 40mm kits is kinda rare, hence me looking at the 50mm ones. I think that the kits listed will give approx drops give or take a few mm. H&R seem to be a good kit but they're £550 over my budget. I am considering the KW kit in link above, as their coilovers are well respected for quality and ride and they give a 40mm drop from factory height. I'm just wondering if the other slightly cheaper ones will ride the same or similar as they're £100 or so saving there.

Yea thats the case with mine but a lyk the new rear tails so not fussed if they stay on.hopefully sum guys on here give us some feedback on the drop.when will your car b ready then?
 
Looking at Monday probably, as they are pretty busy in there... nearly 2 weeks after I wanted it all to have been done, ah well... get there in the end lol.

So nobody has an opinion on these kits then?
 
Looks real high... thought they were 18's .I would go for 50 mm drop personally as that would look like your example .I am in the same boat having a SB Sport .Currently looking for the same wheels and suspension .for me the 50mm kit or a cheap set of coilovers is on the cards .Will be keen to see what you pick and what yours looks like in the end .Looking forward to seeing your side skirts also ...

most places I spoke to said that coilovers available in my budget were not as comfortable. We were discussing FK Highsport, AP's, Vmaxx, JOM redline etc. I'm told that weitec's are as comfortable as S line suspension but I want it more comfortable/ less crashy and bouncy over bumps/ potholes if possible.

steve it does look real high and this makes the wheels look smaller :sadlike: but not for long mate :eyebrows: N8 has confused the issue a lil with his love of coilies and I'm interested to hear what he says because he's rode in a lot of cars with them.

I should add I would have just gone for 50mm H&R springs but my cars done 90+K miles so I'm sure it will drive a lot better in general once this mod is done.

I'd love to but the S3 brakes, private plate, wheels, facelift costs, suspension upgrade is already starting to take it's toll! ;)

The wheels are as seen below, but have more kerbing now :ninja:

Air ride is my love now man :laugh: Bro, the v-maxx on my friends B6 are so comfy its unreal, shame your not closer to bristol, you could go out for a ride with him. V-Maxx are sound for the money, need anymore help just ask.
 
I know but do the mods one by one step by step.
I think that suspensions are important also like the brakes and other stuff. Go for something good , do not make compromise . You will regret then and throw money .

I get annoyed when people say "Coilovers are harsh and uncomfortable". The beauty of a (decent) set of coilovers is that YOU determine the quality of the ride. You can buy springs of differing stiffnesses, and you can adjust your own damping, even if bump and rebound are controlled in one hit. I instantly lost a lot of respect for my local Audi specialist when he said that same thing. "Well, coilovers ruin the ride quality, they're too hard". FAIL. I fitted coilovers to a previous car, and it could be a rock hard track-bandit as well as a very gentle motorway roller, just by adjusting the dampers.

I started out looking at springs for my A3, then wondered about spring/damper "kits", but am now just holding on for a bit, reading about all the better damping-adjustable coilovers, and will do it the right way, plus renew any worn rubbers at the same time, and perhaps get some camber-correcting bushes, and get it all set up to reap the benefits fully. Anti-roll bars are tempting too!

I get the assumption that coilovers (of a certain range) will be harsher than springs and kits from the suppliers of the kits and when u read reviews u see comments like, their as comfortable as sport/ S line suspension, which is pants isn't comfortable at all, lol. The other thing is I have a budget for what I am doing to the car and it's been raised a couple times already, I'm also a lil impatient and want to get it all done asap :eyebrows: I was going to use the Koni FSD as they sound spot on but they will cost about £600 with springs and I read lowering height is 30mm max?

So would you guys say that non damping adjustable coilovers are also as comfortable as spring and shock kits? In one of those links the FK shock kit has adjustable damping like the koni sport yellow ones do, but I am not sure what their springs are like... At the minute I'm leaning toward the KW's because of the rep, but if you guys are sure that Vmaxx or AP coils would ride as well, then I would consider those.

N8 I read that Jamex/ JOM/ Vmaxx were all the same so are the JOM on par with the VMaxx's or is that rubbish?

Well I'm trying to decide between the AP coils, V-Maxx coils or the Vogtland 50mm spring kit which has good reviews coming from across the pond, opinions on ride quality with the 19's on these choice would be appreciated :)
 
Coilovers I'd say go for the AP but if you want a more comfortable option then go for the Vogtland springs and shocks kit.

Thanks Damian, I'm mulling over the 2... Would you say that the spring kit gives a far better ride than the AP coilovers? Adjustability is attractive and would have preferred a 50/40 kit so the rear isn't sagging lol, but will probably go for the Vogtland if they are far more comfortable.

N8 am I likely to get any rubbing with my 235's on the 50mm? Should be about 40mm as sport is 10mm lower than standard.
 
I ride FSD's & Eibach Pro's on my car, you get better ride, comfort with nice stance aswell, removed the bouncy castle ride of stock setup.
 
I think I might go for the KW shocks and springs kit then as it lowers by 40mm front & rear, basically RS3 height which gets rid of the 4x4 look, and ticks the 'quality' kit box as well, if the talk of their coilovers are anything to go buy.
