I haven't got any mudflaps on my car and do prefer the look without them but if A3's are prone to chipped side skirts from not having them, I'll get some fitted asap.

Are they of any use?

yes and no ive got some on my car no big difference from before to after fitting them but they do stop so many stone chips and from so much crap gonig up the side of your car in winter but not a huge difference

you dont see many A3's with them because they look awful. The rear ones dont even look like they were designed for the car!!!

i like the look on the rear

but when i was running standard wheels the side of the car would get covered in mud etc even a little with the front flaps fitted

but since fitting 8" wide 18's mud off the edge of the tyre seem to get thrown away from the side so fronts are not really needed

would fit them on my C4s rear but the exhausts would melt them as the rear boxes are in the rear wings
