Nah rear window popped when he turning heating on & mixed with frozen glass, just shattered according to the article, but come on, who goes at there car with a ****** hammer & chisel, kinda stupid imho

That happened to my mates merc over christmas.
Did not think it was possible.
 
Why not just start the motor up and get the heaters going to thaw it out!?

As you suggest, a high powered heated screen might cause some problems, but just warming the inside of the cabin with the normal cabin heater/blower would have melted the ice away before long.
