how can you tell if your cat on a 140 tdi is blocked ?

Same as any exhaust blockage. Lack of power, not enough exhaust fumes coming from exhaust. If in doubt just cut the frigging thing out and put a piece of pipe in. Should only cost £50-100 to do.

Should get a warning light in your dis.The you have to drive at about 40mph in third for a couple of miles to burn the carbon off the cat comb.It smells like bakelite.

wont cutting it out damge turbo or make it over boost ?

You must be thinking about a DPF not a cat. No wires connected to a cat and to burn soot out of a cat you drive fast.

The standard cat is free flowing so makes very little difference to exhaust pressure/flow. Changing your back box will lower back pressure and make more difference to the turbo and power then removing the cat.

yes i have dpf then not a cat ..probelm is im 15bhp down on power and wondering if this could be probelm or low compression ?

PD140 engines don`t come with a DPF.

doh ok...what ever is on the down pipe at the top no wires attached to it i dont think 54 plate 140

That`s a CAT mate like you stated in your first post.
