Hi all, I have traded in my previous Audi for another one recently.

The car drives great, but i scanned it anyway, and found these code.
The only one i don't know about is the 'Cent Electric' one, what does it do ? and where is it ?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Clear them, retest & come back with new faults.

I have driven the car for a few days, and reset and scanned the car for fault codes again.

The car has trouble starting when cold, and some times puffs out black smoke.
The fault codes with the engine point to the glow plugs needing replacing.

I dont know about the fault code on the pass door electrics though.

thanks all

change all 4 glow plugs.
check the puddle lights on the pax door.
check the loom between the door and the "A" pillar for broken wires.

Thanks for the help so far.
Have had all 4 glow plugs changed, but the day after the alternator died on me.
I have fitted a new alternator, but I am having trouble putting the aux drive belt back on, according to the Haynes manual, there is an access panel in the front drivers wheel well.
Is it just a case of removing the wheel well cover ?

Sorry to hijack your thread, but how do you go about scanning the car for faults? I'm looking to buy soon and this would be very useful.

Is it something I can do when viewing the car?

00933 - Electric Window Motor; Passenger Side (V148): No or Incorrect Basic Setting / Adaptation

Possible Symptoms

  • Window Automatic Run not working
  • Pinch Protection limited
Possible Causes

  • Automatic Run & Pinch Protection not adapted
Possible Solutions

  • Adapt Automatic Run & Pinch Protection (see Special Notes)
Special Notes

  • Pinch Protection Adaptation
    • Make sure the window in question is completely closed.
    • Use the driver door window buttons to operate the window(s).
    • Roll down the window and keep holding the button down for 2 additional seconds after the window is already fully opened.
    • Roll up the window and keep holding the button up for 2 additional seconds after the window is already fully closed.
    • Now test the window automatic.
As for the 00121 code i would start by checking both, exit and puddle light bulbs and connections to the bulb holders. Then if they are ok then move onto inspecting the loom between A-pillar and passenger door.

Hi,
Thanks for the info, but i am currently looking for info on how to access the aux belt, so i can put it back on the pullys ect and test my new alternator.
As i said the haynes manual says there is an access panel in the drivers side wheel well, do i just have to remove the plastic wheel well cover ?
Going to try tonight, just wanted some quick advice.

Right, I have refitted the Aux belt and now she runs like a champ!! Thanks for the help all.

There is one small prob that I need help with now.
Since I have disconnected the battery to change the alternator, some times when I remove the key from the ignition the clock and trip displays on the instrument cluster stay on and don’t go out, even after clicking the lock button the key fob and all the other lights going out.

I can force them to go out if I turn the electrics back on then off, are they just on some really long timer or something ?

Depends what you call long, scan the car & clear any remaining errors & see if this helps.

Mine stay on a couple of minutes..always have done.

Yeah my hazard switch stays lit up aswell, annoys the hell out of me lol

Turns out it was just me, thinking that the clock and trip displays stayed on to long, oops.

Just on a side note, the Mpg of my car is 40 or there abouts according to my Dis, and struggles to get this.
My previous car was at 50Mpg, I can also get the car to rev to 3k+ Rpm in 3rd or higher.
Is this normal for an A3 ?
Also i had an error about the engine Intake manafold flap, this went after i cleard it, but i was wondering if it would be a good idea to clean it and the Egr anyway ?

P.s.
The car has done 111K+ Miles, and is a 54 plate, BKD engine, with Dsg.

The intake flap maybe or already is on its way out, keep a close eye on that as if its old as car is 54 plate bkd then the teeth are known to snap on the cog inside the flap mechanics, take it of, prise of the lid to check to be sure, if broken, get new or revised 2nd user part.

MPG maybe is down to heavy foot, reset the readings via wiper stalk then try a motorway run at 60mph & see what it returns, mine with a hybrid turbo & custom map running 230 horses still does 62mpg.

Thanks for the info NHN, I am aiming to look at the intake flap this weekend.
When i remove the flap is there any gasket ect that needs replacing?

Most of my runs are @60mph or less, doing around 30miles per day total distance.

I thought that in 'D' the car was not supposed to rev to 3k only about 2k, then change to give better fuel economy ?

There are some between the egr, flap & manifold iirc yes, but I just reused mine, removed them carefully, cleaned up the oil, surrounding areas & no leaks mate, but if you want then replace as they're only small amounts which gives peace of mind.

Dont worry about rev's, it isnt a problem afaik & I have 2 of these cars, if it goes above 5 then worry lol.

Bear in mind it will change gears at different revs depending on where the throttle pedal is and load..so if its pulling even lightly, it will hold a gear to a higher revs.. if you back off lightly it will change up so you do have a degree of control.
