Xenon Lights - Auto Range Questions

On my order form, I have the optional extra Xenon lights - I mainly got these because of the LED DRL but, fancied the Xenon lights! Just wondered what the auto range is, and how you find it!
Picked up on the 30th May!

2013 '13' Plate - Audi TT 1.8 TFSI S Line Roadster | Ibis White | Xenon Headlights with LED DRL | Half Leather/Suede with Silver Stitching | Brushed Aluminium Trim

Gone but won't be forgotten! 2011 '11' Plate - Audi A3 1.4 TFSI S Line | Ibis White | Privacy Glass | iPod Dock | Xenon Headlights with LED DRL | Half Leather with Silver Stitching | Brushed Aluminium Trim | S3 Pedals

I think auto range just means you don't have the light height setting switch, it's a legal requirement for factory fitted xenons. A sensor in the rear arch and another in the front determine the pitch(?) of the car, so you don't have to tell the car how it's loaded, and then the light module sets the angle of the headlights. When you turn on the car, the lights point forward, then down for a sec, then come up to the required level.

My xenons on a 2005 car don't give decent range at all, but I've had them checked out and they are ok. Must be my failing night vision due to advancing years!
