fuel cap wont open?? cold weather maybe

Hey guys. my fuel cap wont budge i press it inwards to release the popper but nothing happens. cant get it open atall. dont want to pull it and force it. anyone else had this problem atall? could it be due to the cold weather. as the whole car has got frozen ice on it. maybe the popper has frozen?

There is a manual release behind one plastic black popout halfway up in the luggage compatment on the right hand side. When you pop it out there should be a red coloured plastic rod that you have to pull to release the locking pin on the fuel flap.

But be careful the manual release could break something if you pull too hard if it is frozen. Never tried mine so not sure but would not want you to damage it.

Didnt he say the fuel cap, not flap, hot water as its a sealed hole with the cap anyway, so wont go into the tank.

Also if the flap solenoid is frozen, dont pull the red plastic as it will potentially snap & then when it truly is busted in not so cold weather you're fecked.

Afaik you cannot push the fuel cap to open it so it has to be the flap. Depending on if he's desperate to refuel, he can choose to pull the tab or wait for it to defrost. Hot water is a good idea but solenoid is mounted on an inner skin which means he'll need lots of it.

He seems to be confused as to which is which, but yeah I'd agree it would seem he has got issues with the FLAP, maybe he can clarify this so we're not at cross hairs.

He could always pee on it, depending on his previous evening it may also help fuel the car :P but I reiterate, if its frozen stuck, be very careful with the plastic release piece, as its not that strong trust me, as had that area of several 8P's many times.

Klik - I think Paddy was making a joke !

What he means is - because his petrol cap was stuck, he couldn't put any fuel in, thereby saving himself 50 a week !

    The Vagcom comment is also a joke ( I think !!!!!! )

Get the dealer to check the wiring, it a reverse polarity circuit iirc, a simple multimeter test on the feed wires as its a pulse signal, so if it isnt getting a pulse when locking/unlocking on either wire, then they need to work backwards to the point of each wire connection, it should just go back to the conv module tbh so cant see there issue in finding the fault.

    Thnx NHN,

Through dealers VAS, the cap was locked but when we tried with my remote key it stayed locked so we had to unlock it through VAS again.
They have ordered the drivers window module saying that some signal wires pass from there.
I will let you know how it will go.

    cheers

The conv module locks the pin across, the signal from the remote is sent to the conv module not the door module & then the conv module signals the door modules to lock or unlock, now if you used the key its a different story as it has loads of microswitches inside to signal the door module, but its just a signal from drivers door to the conv module which then signals the passengers & also tells the rest of the car modules that are interconnected that the drivers door is also locked or unlocked.

ATM I find it hard to believe the door module is to blame cause the rest of the car locks if I read right, but knowing modules, they can act very stupidly sometimes.
