Induction kit and free flow exhaust, not much else you can do. A remap will give some more bhp but not much

i can get a supercharger for 450 by a mate owns a car parts store.... so that could be an option i was thinking of taking the middle box and cat out on the exhaust finishing it out with a twin dtm pipe. and then panel filter with remapping... supercharger would be lush.... what engine conversion can you do i was looking and a 911 turbo will bolt in with a few changes but that would be extreme might drop the 1.8 or 2.0 t in it or get it re-bored

    no point.

just bite the bullet and get a car with a different engine.

about 6 months ago i was in the same predicament as you. any money you spend on this 1.6 you aren't going to get back. just save up and make the jump to a 2.0T when you can afford it.

Remember the supercharger may cost that much but the rest of the bits your gonna need to get it added and working gonna cost
Either of the below are good choices for engine conversions....
    2.0TFSI A3/GTI 200BHP - S3 265bhp - VW Golf Edition 30 245bhp
    VW R36 3.6 300bhp, 1.8T 210bhp or 225bhp, 3.0TDI 240bhp there loads of vags engine you could put in.
Or could be different an drop a different engine thats not from the vag range...
All depends on how much your willing to spend and your goal really.

I'd spend a few grand on either buying a new car with a better engine or replacing the engine in your current car

If its a DIY project car for long term ownership then maybe its worth playing with. If not, change the rear box and add an intake for noise.

Even if you then sort the ride height and wheels, that will lead to other styling twaeks, and the next thing you know within 12months you could have bought a higher spec and much more tuneable derv/petrol Turbo with the money!

Think Sub summed it up in his previous post TBH.

    Good luck

Agree...1.6 is only good for the looks as its in an Audi. Other than that its a poo engine no offence intended... As every one said keep the money and get a different car or engine conversion

pick up a copy of Performance VW and choose a few tuners. then look on here for recommendations for those tuners. that's the way i'd do it if i were considering an engine transplant.

but for such a new car i really wouldn't bother. for the money you'll spend just get an S3 or something, and if you want a project get a Cat D and fix it like Phil did. (before you chime in Phil i know yours wasn't a Cat D, i'm just using you as an example .)

seriously, it's not worth it. doing an engine transplant will probably shaft you on insurance more than getting a genuine 1.8T

It may be different now, but it used to be that if you modded a lower spec car to the same as a standard higher spec car, the modded car was more expensive to insure. For example, people used to put 16V GTI engines in Mk2 Golfs and they were more expensive to insure than a standard 16V GTI.

If it were me, I would save and buy a different car.

ooor put the money you'll be wasting towards an S3 when you can afford to insure it.

i know exactly how you feel, i had grand plans with my 1.6 too. it really isn't worth it.

I know almost everyone else here has said this as well, but I don't think it's possible to overemphasize the fact that it's not worth spending lots of money on your current car's engine.

As a normally aspirated engine, getting much more out of it will cost you a LOT of money and doing a turbo or supercharged conversion is also very costly.

Keep the money, and save for an S3 or similar.

In fact ANY declared mods on ANY car you a young chap will result in a humping from the Insurance company.

Check first but the premium increase may change you views on whether to perform any mods at all.

    Good luck

As another example, the mkIV R32 is a quick car with 240bhp out the box. A mate of mine spent a fortune on a full Miltek exhaust with sports cats, CAI and Schrick cams - and gained 20 odd bhp!

So a normally aspirated 1.6, or bored out 1.8, simply won't gain much power unless you spend a fortune on forced induction. You may then find you can't afford to insure that either? And you will have spent as much money as it would have cost you to get a TDI, 2.0T or S3.

As has been said, either sell it and get a different car, or wait. No point wasting money on anything other than aesthetic mods as power gains would be minuscule. I thought for a very long time about selling my 1.6 (not an 8P, but still a 1.6), and I wouldn't have been able to get insurance on much, but I was gonna sell it and get a E39 530d as the insurance wasn't too much more than the quotes I was getting for this year. Then my renewal came through and was about 1k, so decided to keep the 1.6 and just get something better in the next few years.
