Hi Guys,

I am off to CC Tuning in Burton on Trent this week to talk about a remap on my S3. Have been emailing Chris there and he has been helpful.

I am also considering Revo but they are almost £200 more. Also I think CC have an RR so will be able to get figures as well and I thought maybe having a remp done on RR is better or does it not make a difference?

Has anyone used CC Tuning?
 
not heard of them myself, but doesn't mean they won't be any good. They seem to map anything (as opposed to strictly VAG derived cars), so can he point in the direction of any other S3 owners who's cars he has mapped?

As has been said on here before, decide how long you think you may keep the car, what your overall upgrade path is likely to consist of, then contact a few local tuners who can support you throughout the end to end development process (providing they turn out to be any good). Less distance to travel if anything goes wrong, and they will have a bespoke understanding of your car.

I always want someone who specialises in a particular brand, has a depth of experience in that field, may have some motorsport racing credentials, and has been around long enough to be in business down the line (in case of long term issues). Customer endorsement is usually a powerful measure, so read some reviews on the various VAG forums. You don't have to spend a fortune to get quality, but largely speaking you tend to get what you pay for.

Have you spoken to Ben Williamson from AVP in Burton to get another perspective.

I will have a word with them about any onther VAG cars (especially S3's) he may have done. Although he seems to know his stuff and has been doing it a while which gives me a bit of confidence rather than someone new.

I am only doing stage one as car will be changed in 3 years so didn't want to throw money at it & just want a little more power.

I do prefer specialists, for example had my Astra done by VXRPC (888 I think) and they were really good but just a bit of a trek so would like someone local.

I tried to get on the AVP website but it doesn't seem to be working so I have got in touch with Revo in Daventry and again they have been helpful & I know you do get what you pay for but at £499 is a bit on the high side for me. I am sure I can find AVP number on the net so will give Ben a call as well.
 
I had a similar dilemna.

Having used REVO on a previous car I knew the product and service was excellent however I thought the price was very steep.

So after doing some homework, GIAC and REVO seemed to be the front runners from a testimonials perspective although Custom Code, Celtic tuning were interesting.

REVO were the only one that had a nationwide network and I knew I had someone local to go to in the event on any problems, dealer reflashes etc. so in the end I bit the bullet and coughed up the £580 for REVO.
Dont regret it one bit.

The difference between a cheap map and REVO etc is £300 and if you plan to keep the car for 3 year thats peanuts over the term.
That said, there are loads of tuners out there offering S3 maps and Im sure lots of them are very good.
On a 20-25K car I would have to be absolutely sure....

Get a decent map and you will be very happy with the results, even Stage 1 transforms the S3.

I would go for the biggest most recognised tuner thats closest to you. Don't go for someone who only does generic maps, not heard of this CC tuning but sounds like thats all they offer.
Revo and GIAC are the best over here for this engine..

I think I am going to stick it out until the new year and possibly go Revo. Problem I have is (which I am sure I am not the only one) if I decide I want something I want to get it straight away. So I can justify spending £300 now but can't stretch to £580. If I wait 2 months (until after chrimbo) I can spend more, or I could just whack more on the credit card...again... :think:
 
Dont bother with £300 generic map. I made that mistake and ended up paying twice !

£300 for a generic celtic tuning map- was ok but once I upgraded the downpipe and cat, then fitted Intake the map was no longer compatible, lost all my low down torque with the intake on and the map did not adjust itself contrary to what Celtic tuning said in their limited brief replies.

Then I went GIAC and never looked back. It did knacker my clutch though.

What is it with these 20TFSI clutches? Utter ***** and under engineered..

I had one replaced in a MK5 Gti after 20K and after 28K in the S3. Both were REVO Stage 1 however......:eyebrows:.....:whistle2:

I think basically the DMF and clutch are running pretty close to their limit. The days of german over engineering are long gone.If you at many jap performance cars they do it properly. The RB26 skyline and last Supra TT blocks for example can handle 600 hp on bone stock internals.
Same actually goes for American cars- the engines and transmissions are MUCH stronger and can 2 times stock power with little change.

my new Sachs is hving problems too yet to be diagnosed...thought OEM DMF and sachs was a pretty standard failsafe upgrade too :(
 
Ben Williams who use to own Avp in burton is now working direct for Revo as they are opening up a number of tuning shops up and down the country. As they are going to be doing full tuning packages for all vag cars

Sweet, this should give them much better control over quality, as when you sell a franchise to a tuner/garage you are twinning your brand (e.g. Revo) with an effective unknown quantity. At least with a fully Revo branded tuning centre there will be accountability, consistent expertise and a clearly defined set of upgraded packages that should be tried and tested. All for that. Would love a one stop shop to drop the car off at for servicing and mods all in one.

yes a littel birdie told me Revo are doing TBE, Inakes, Pumps the lot... will be interesting..
 
This sounds really good & probably explains why the AVP website is down. I am assuming if I try the AVP number I may not get anywhere does anyone have Ben's number?

Also is the sps switch worth it? I know the switch allows you to turn the map off, but I assume it can still be overwritten by the dealer (even if you tell them it has been mapped)?

That little bird would be james as im the one that told him as ben williams is a pal of mine and he done my stage 2+ set up on my car .
iv seen a pic of the exhaust and it looks nice and as for the intakes there is going to be 2 types a open filter like evoms and a closed case filter like the dbilias flow master .

as for bens number im not going to give it out but if you phone revo and ask for ben he wil be there working in the tuining shop seting every thing up ready for when they open there first shop at revo HQ very soon

Thanks mate, I did a bit more searching once I got home from work and found he had posted his email and mobile number on another forum so have pinged one over to him.

After seeing that a lot of people speak so highly of Ben & Revo I have decided to take the plunge and spend that bit more.

no problem mate and ben is a top guy and knows every thing about vag cars and he writes every month in audi driver magazine on the tec

Chris at cc tuning is very good,we had a rr day there a few weeks back and he did a few custom remaps and everyone seemed very
happy with his work.
We have a few lads that have been using him for years and really rate him,including some big power mk4 turbo's

Hiya, thanks very much for the info. it is good to hear someone who has used them. I will pop in to see him because there is a big difference in price between the two that I am looking at.

Hey mate just had mine mapped here yesterday @ Dynotech, Derbyshire Uk - Performance and Tuning Engineers. Rolling road. give Kevin a call.

I guarantee you'll be more than happy. He did numerous runs on the rollers and gave me exactly what I asked for nice power with no flat spots and just over 300 bhp...

He's very well priced but needs your car all day as its a custom map £275 + vat.
 
Hi Guys,

Just thought I would let you know I went to CC Tuning in Burton yesterday and Chris mapped my car. Unfortunately couldn't put it on the rollers as he only has 2WD and didn't want to risk the methods used to do this. However, he did say that they are pretty much the same as the Gold ED30's and they all seem to make at least 300BHP so should be there or there abouts. I may find somewhere with 4WD rr and find out what it has put it up to.

On first impressions I am very pleased! The car does pick up a lot better and doesn't really seem to lose any power when changing gear. I knew the turbo would be a bit louder, but I have noticed it is quite loud in lower gears, almost like a squeal, at first I thought it was my tryes screeching when I gave some beans around a roundabout! I assume this noise is normal after a map?

Thanks to Chris though as he knows his stuff and was very helpful. Also thanks to evocos for the recommendation, and I did get a discount. He said Jules was popping to see him soon (today I think?).
