Audi A3 on Start Up its miss fires

Hi Guys,

What is the cause of my Audi A3 2.0tdi 53 plate 8P chassis etc etc, when I start the engine first thing the car seems to cuagh and splatter when idling, like is sounds as if its miss firing, but when the engine heats up the engine "when idling" runs as per normal.

I am thinking it maybe the glow plugs!!!

Does anyone know the cause of this?

And can anyone recommend high spec glow plugs for this type of car??

Your input would be much appriaciated.

yeah either glow plugs or the connections to them, or a fuel leak at the rail feeding the injectors can cause rough starts. Be careful taking the old ones out as they stick and snap in the head, so get the engine warm, and spray release agent liberally on them before trying to unscrew them. If they are very stiff, spray them again as soon as the "lock" is cracked off, before turning them any further to prevent breaking them. work them gently back and forth a quarter turn till they rotate smoothly.
