How can you find out the engine code?

Hi All,

If I was going to see an A3, How would I find out the engine code for a 2.0 TDI 140Bhp DSG? i.e. if it was BKD

And also what is the engine that came after BKD..on here I read that it came out in the 55 plates and younger cars.

Its in the audi logbook mate. If not theres a sticker in the boot of the car which has got all the vehicle codes on it.
 
Thanks Gavin...I totally forgot about the sticker, that's how I know what my current car has in it!!
 
type your reg no. into this following website:

VRM

that will tell you your engine code :)
 
Cheers Robin..how reliable is the information? I think I just outted a 140 advertised as a 170 bhp!!
 
Also are all 2.0 TDI 140 BKD engines? I read on a post on here that said that it changed due to the cracked cylinder head problems in 2005..but the engine code doesn't seem to have changed :think:
