    Rear Wiper Issue

Hey! New to the forum :D But Here is my issue...

The rear wiper on my 04 A3 goes the wrong way. When i bought the car the wiper arm was ruined so went to audi, got new wiper arm. installed. all was working dandy until i used the washers... Now the washer on the rear wiper arm shoot across the arm itself which then washes the back window.

Not on mine, mine is the wrong way round so it dribbles down the boot... and if i put the arm on the correct way round the wiper arm obv just wipes the wrong way. Any ideas on why this would happen?

    Thanks.

Pic to assist. This wipes over the window...

When my rear wiper is in the park position, the tip is on the driver's side. I took my washer jet off yesterday to clean it out, so can comment on that with some certainty!

Yeah i know it its on the other side but if i put it on that way and then use it, the wiper arm swings down over the boot

I don't know what work would have been done that would result in the wiper kicking the wrong way from the park position. Any ideas when it started happening with the previous owner? No clues at all as to the cause?

maybe they had to fit new motor as it had failed & have fitted it wrong.

I can't quite think at the moment, do our A3s have a full 180 degree sweep, or do they only go to 150 degrees or so? If it's a full 180, then perhaps the power and earth feeds to the motor are the wrong way round. If it's under 180 degrees, then perhaps the motor internals are 180 degrees out and the pick-up disc is causing it to park on the wrong side and then rotate the wrong way? Either way, you need to get at your motor!

I'm sure its a multiplug so it cant be wired the wrong way.

just had a look at ELSA, there is no way to fit motor or wire it wrong. Do you the invoice with part numbers on it?

just another thought, maybe somebody dismantled it and put it back together incorrectly?

That is what I was inferring Khufu. I would hope that there aren't a couple of insulated spade terminals just pushed on the motor, willy-nilly! Then again, with some DIY-modders, you never know! I thought a cheap pattern part may have been bought, in which the wiring differs to the genuine VAG motor. The thought of that wiper arm sweeping down over the tailgate is going to give me nightmares

As you say, spade connector? Surely only on eastern block cars only LOL

Its a 15 min job you can do yourself, the hardest part being removing the old arm but as you have just fitted one it wont be seized on.

AFAIR - wiper arm off, open tail gate, undo torx for the inner handle, pry off the trim (will make horrible cracking noise but dont worry!) unclip multiplug, unclip water pipe, 3 bolts and remove. In classic haynes manual style - installation is opposite of removal LOL

Brilliant. Your wiper arm is back-to-front so you fit a new rear diffuser to solve the problem. Much like Joey from friends getting a hernia, then deciding to have laser eye surgery as soon as his health insurance comes through!

If it ain't broke, don't fix it...but if it IS broke, fix something else!
