Came to start my A3 TDI 2006 and there's no display on the dashboard (no mileage, DIS etc) and the climate doesn't light up either (but still works/blows air). The car starts and drives fine. Also notice the lights-on buzzer isn't working with door open. For some reason about 4 lights on the dash stay lit up in the rev counter)

I've checked the fuses near the battery and also the other fuseboard on the driver's side dash. Are there any more I could check? It must be power-related if both the dash and the climate system don't work/light up?

Please help!!

It's the ABS, Airbag, Handbrake and a red steering wheel light that are lit up in the RPM side, with NOTHING else working on the dash, these stay on for about 1 minute after I turn the ignition off. I've checked the (single) connector on the back of the dash pod and it's firmly connected.

The aircon/climate works but the display is not lighting up (but it is very very dim, and can be seen from certain angles slightly).

Could it be a module perhaps?

Doesnt sound too good. Without testing lots of things its hard to guess. I'd recommend a scan using vacom to see what it reports. Where are you located?

Near Manchester, I will try and get it connected to a vagcom and report back any faults. Weird, as the car has been perfect up until this and there's been no hint of a problem before and up to last night when it was last used.

I've removed the instrument cluster and disconnected it and the climate comes back to life (lights up as normal). I want to check a Parrot installation behind the radio/climate incase this is interfering somehow with the dash.

Does anyone know who you remove the climate control switches/facia?

I've now had the car on VAGCOM and it's come up with a few faults. There's a couple of faults relating to heating but I've already found that if I unplug the dash clocks the climate comes back on as normal. The fault for the instruments is "00532 Voltage B+ - Upper Limit Exceeded". Can anyone help at all?

As said the car drives fine, there's no problems with anything else apart from the instruments (some of the lights work, like andbrake, battery, cruise still works fine etc), but the dials, computer DIS etc don't come on at all. One thing I want to try is a second set of clocks as they're so easy to change. Does anyone know of a car being broken or someone have a spare set of clocks from this age car I could try to narrow it down?

I think I saw one being advertised on eBay and I'm sure it's the one with dis..

Thanks for that - I checked that but there's no reference to "Upper Limit" which is more worrying that too low voltage isn't it!!

I've seen one off an 06 TDI with a DIS but the part number is different - why are there sooooo many variations of each part on these cars!!? My part no. for the clocks is;

8P0 920 981 F

At the moment it's pointing towards the cluster failing but am loathe to take it Audi who may think the same and throw a lot of MY money at it without knowing for certain. That's why I think atm finding a second hand or spare cluster even just to trial would be a huge help. Not bothered if it doesn't start the car, just to check if it reponds properly or reacts the same way which would indicate a fault elsewhere?

Im sure some members must have their old ones after changing to the white LED cluster? I do but mine is a petrol cluster.

Thanks, would have been great if it was a TDI one!

Getting somewhere I think with this now; I've spent the afternoon till now taking off the under panel, clocks (again), radio, climate, and then pulling out the glovebox, checking any connection I could. The Gateway which Elsawin conveniently describes as "bolted to a centre console brace in driver's footwell" turned out to be behind the glovebox. I know it probably refers to LHD but it's well out in this case!! Had the battery disconnected for a while too and disconnected the gateway to see if it would possibly clear a problem.

Anyway none of that solved the problem :crying:HOWEVER I've noticed the steering wheel symbol change from red to orange to green randomly and this seems to "release" the other warning lights that do work on the cluster. Waggling some wires around the steering column and starting the car the clocks came to life very briefly!!! So it looks like a bad connection or maybe related the steering wheel sensor which is somehow knocking the whole clocks out?? As they did all come on, the warning buzzer sounded too briefly so will have a better look tomorrow in light.

A very strange fault but hopefully getting closer to solving it - also wondering if it's related to moving the wheel up and down due to different drivers high to low (myself and my girlfriend)??

Thanks, had spotted those but kind of dismissed them as the part number not exactly the same; what would the difference be on the suffix letter? 8P0 920 981 B vs F

Some good news and some bad news.

After light fading last night with bits of trim still off (under steering wheel etc) I left it until I can take another look later tonight. Came to start it this morning to go to work and the dashboard/clocks/everything came on as normal straight away! so it's definitely not the clocks (thankfully) but for some reason somerthing in the steering column is affecting them. There is one earth on the column which is fine, bolted up tight so it's not that.

So the good news they've come back on (as easily as they went off), but hte bad news I still don't know why they went off and could go off again at a later date. Has anyone any suggestions what could possibly affect the instruments like this in the steering column area? igntion barrell??

Check all your wires around the area mate, properly, must be a short/broken wire or loose connection.
