Hi,

I just took an upset call from my friend who just returned to his S3 at an Airport NCP minus his wing mirrors. Both mirrors have been professionally (criminally) removed. This really boils my ****. If you can't afford an S3 or to enhance your non S3, what gives you the right to pinch it off someone who works ****** hard to look after it and park it securely?????!!!!!!

Anyway, I'm probably venting at the wrong people right now......
If anyone has been offered wing mirrors in Central Scotland for a suspiciously convenient price please PM me, i'm sure Lothian and Borders polis shop would be grateful for any help.

Also, if anyone has had similar issue and has any tips on replacing them with genuine parts with genuine receipts GENUINELY, please also provide feedback. What is his chance of any headway with NCP, or criminal damages?

Cheers,

Pete

Sorry to hear this, its almost weekly that someone on here gets their mirrors nicked, this is the reason why i took mine off and sold them replacing them with some black ones.

Hate the scum who do this, its a bad state of affairs! This is happening too much now! Hope your mate gets sorted!

sorry to hear about this mate as said it happens way to often if its not the wing mirrors then its the car themselfs we all work very hapd to have such nice cars and what gives the scum of this earth the right to help them selfs it makes me sick , hope your mate gets his car sorted soon

Thieving little crackheads!! Sorry to hear this mate! Wish your mate all the luck in getting something sorted!

Anyone who buys mirrors of e-bay just fuels this.

thought you needed to get into the car to remove the mirrors? that's gotta suck... hope he gets everything sorted

That is a real bummer. I hate the scum that do this type of thing. On the worst day of my life , I had bought a new golf limited edition and it was my pride and joy. I went to visit my sick dad in hospital and was told he would be dead within days. I was really upset , and came down to my car and found the window smashed in and stereo gone.... If I could have got my hands on the scum right then ...well I would still be doing time now...

What is it about wing mirrors that they want to steal them ?

they are worth £100 on e-bay. The problem is everyone wants a bargain of the bay but no one wants to know where the parts come from. I remember when i bought my RNSE from some Eastern Euro bloke that had loads for sale on the bay....when it arrived it had the last owners favourites still programed in to the map, he was a German and it made me feel really sick to think how he felt when he found it gone from his car.....
Last week I bought a copy of windows XP, sealed and brand new with its access code etc. Once I tried to verify it on line I have Microsoft on the phone saying the disc is a pirate…it looks good, even has the holograms etc but basically I have done my money.. The place is a rip off and a pirate /thief’s delight.

I hate buying stuff off the bay for this and this reason alone, I'm lucky at the moment my next door neighbour is an ex marine who is nosey and the other side is an ex infantry soldier with his mrs whos ex army, when they tried to break into my car the booty next door caught him gave him a hiding, petty crime is awful. and in they eyes of the law you stand no chance,

that is spot on,I always look for them on ebay and if they are just the caps I pester them with where and when they bought them as ebay are not interested.

Your right Jase, they were not intrested in the pirate windows disc either.

this is the percise reason why i hate taking my car anywhere, ********, i hear about parts from time to time, i presume its the whole mirror, or is it just the covers?

Bad news mate, happens all too often

Good luck with NCP though mate, my uncle had his E46 M3 cabrio stolen from the "secure" NCP car part at Birmingham airport. Conveniently the CCTV wasnt working in the area it was parked and some nice little exclusions in their terms meant that the term "secure" means sweet FA regarding NCP car parks.

The M3 was never found in its entirity but varios BMW parts and the tracker were found in a lock up in Coventry, nice.

surprised it didn't end up in russia. cars of that calibre usually end up there once they're stolen. i'd be so heartbroken if my car got nicked and i found out it had been broken for parts. when i buy from eBay i try and go for sources which look clean. you know, business users who specialise in VAG and seem reputable. i'm happy to pay a little more to be a bit more certain i'm not fuelling illegal activity or profiting from someone else's hard work turned ill-gotten gain.

I've heard a few things about NCP car parks CCTV not functioning in the past

Pretty scummy stealing someones wing mirrors, someone stole the nissan badge off my 350z a couple of years ago in an NCP (again cctv covering my car wasn't working) seriously man who wants a nissan badge that was done purely out of evil.

Just get one of these rigged up:

I know it is too late - but might be worth using Datatag or Smart Water to mark your property. Available from most motorcycle dealers.

maybe they should follow suit like they did with the corsa vxr everyone having the wing mirrors stolen so vauxhall redesigner it with a pop off cap that alowed the mirrors to be taken but leaving the base bolted to the door from the inside. leaving the mirrors un usable and not able to be sold without the baseplate. as it would 100% be stolen wing mirrors if tha baseplate was not with them

Quick update, He's been quoted GBP 2045.10 to replace the mirrors and repair dent they managed to make when removing them!
Is this normal?

that's ridiculous. go somewhere else.

thats easy to say but the cost of the mirrors is most of that quote i reckon

you suggesting a cheap pair off ebay?......and so the vicious circle continues!

If i had an S3 i'd like to think i was fully comp protected no claims so when things like this happen, claim! Thats what insurance is for.

even if you got S3 mirrors, they're £800 i think and they don't need spraying because they're alu, right? so basically you've got £1200 unaccounted for, and White220 makes it sound as if the dent is a fairly minor repair. i stand by my original statement.

Door trims need to come off. I have only seen pictures and theres lots of broken black plastic and the wiring has been cut very crudely both sides one upstream of the termination and one down. The dent and paintwork damage is to the A Pillar which will probably be filled then paint match to roof, door and wing will be a total knightmare sooooo 2045GBP sounds actually quite realistic! If anything like this happened to my car I'd want it back to perfect!

Also, Insurance excess makes all repairs to these kind of cars a totally excruciating experience!
