May be a stupid question but is there such a thing as a Strut brace that will fit 8p?

as above guys..... may get mixed answers and comments on this as know my car is not the quickest but anyone know if there are any strut braces that will actually fit my car .. apart from the uprated looks is the handling alot better and can anyone comment? this may be a straight forward answer of no there is no point or that there are no products that fit.. either way your comments would be useful.. cheers dudes...

Isn't an ARB and a strut brace basically the same thing? Apart from 1 is underneath the car and 1 goes on top in either the engine bay or the boot?
Currently driving a 55 plate Ford Mondeo ST. But as Arnie once said...

ahh really didnt know that... thanks mate.... thought that the strut would give you extra support but if not the case I guess it may be better just to go for ARB's... the struts just a cheaper option then or has other benifits?..

strut braces connect top mounts of suspension... they make a huge difference!! i had this beast on my Cooper S... GT TUNING PERFORMANCE Brakes/Suspensions etc

it made a huge difference on front end grip... i dont know how much difference it would make on a A3... ive always thought the A3/S3 engine bay was too tight

Also in some cases you will need to drill the bodywork.

An ARB and a strut brace are two different things.

The strut brace, does as it says, braces the struts to prevent the chassis flex from pushing the struts together under cornering. Don't get me wrong it's not a lot of flex, but it can be detected. Usually you will induce some understeer when adding a front strut brace

An ARB uses the downward motion of the inside wheel of a corner to help to push the outside one back down to level the car out a bit and prevent body roll.

Obviously these are simplified terms and my own opinions, but close enough for practical purposes.

Strut brace stops the strut tops from flexing in & out.

ARB/sway-bar adds resistance to INDEPENDANT vertical wheel-movement.

    COMPLETELY different. NO connection whatsoever.

My Porsche has uprated sway bars (anti-roll bars) front and back, AND racing Dynamics strut brace in the front, and a bar-brace in the back. The Roll-cage also helps stiffen the rear in particular. They do ENTIRELY different jobs.

I don't think that will fit an 8P.

    It depends on what...
    >03
    ...means.

If it means "Up to 03" then it's not for the 8P A3, it's for the 8L.

If it means "greater than 03" (as in the proper mathematical notation) then it would fit...

But I honestly doubt he's using correct mathematical notation.

I think there aren't Strut braces compatible with the 8P... yet...
I've seen some people applying homemade ones....

I realy think that it won't come anything for the 8P. There's almost no room for a Strut brace...

Without cutting metal body panel joins around the strut tower or removing the wiper mechanism there is no way of fitting a strut brace to an A3 8P.
    06 Audi 2.0 PD140 Sport TDI Quattro S-LINE.
Old engine 330 bhp @ flywheel 263 bhp @ wheel 490 lb torque. Audidriver write up HERE
Now stripped and playing with an uprated Cryo treated engine fitted with bigger turbo,water/methanol,uprated injectors etc etc.Wanting 400 bhp and 500 lb torque.

Other car 500+ bhp MK4 Golf R32 turbo.

You said everything... That's why there isn't any brand producing for the 8P...

There is likely less need for a strut brace on the A3 due to the extreme FWD layout of the engine, forcing the wheel/strut location to be right in front of the firewall. The close proximity to that solid sheet of iron causes that sheet to act as a large vertical strut bar, making it structurally much stiffer than the mid-front engine designs where the strut tower are sitting in the middle of the engine bay, flapping back and forth to the wind and direction of travel.

It won't turn in as well as the previous car,as from your signature,I'm guessing you have a FWD TDi,and that does understeer pretty heavily.
Changing the suspension, and uprating the roll bars will make some difference, and certainly with a 4WD(Quattro) you can largely eliminate this tendency, but it's less easy to dial it out on a nose heavy FWD diesel.

As mention strut braces keep the wheels more upright during cornering thus giving more grip etc.

Ive used them in all sorts of cars nissans, vw, subarus etc and most of the time they are are good investment and work well but to my knowledge there are none on the market for the 8p.

Perhaps also worth mentioning that whilst I am sure a strut brace would be the icing on the cake so to speak, the 8P chassis is a lot more rigid than an equivalent car even 5 or 10 years ago,and with the sort of power that some of us have been putting through it,chassis rigidity or lack of,doesn't seem to have been a problem.

If I lost some myself maybe....!
If I put the car on a diet and removed the back seats, there'd be trouble,as I've had one previous car with a full cage and no back seats, and the ball and chain loathed it with a vengeance.....I'll not repeat that experience,so just keep adding a few more bhp instead.
