    Post 2.0TDI Cambelt + Water Pump Service

    My Cambelt is overdue and finally got parts yesterday at my local stealer at trade paid 260 for cambelt kit, water pump and 2 bottles of antifreeze with a 40 surcharge on the waterpump.

    Does Anyone have the Repair Instructions or previous exp. what tools will i need for the job ?

    All help appreciated

    I'm sorry mate - I can't help you but I have to suggest that you've gone about it arse -about-face !

    Before attempting anything like this surely you would ascertain the extent of the work involved, and any special tools required, just to be sure it was within your capabilities.

    Suggest you go on ebay and buy a copy of 'Elsawin' the electronic workshop manual which will explain the process to you. It only costs about a tenner and is the official VAG manual.

    For the same car I have been quoted 320 plus vat for the complete replacement including all new parts in contact with the belt.

    Think I'd rather do it that way and leave any risk to the experts.

    I agree. By the time you add the price of tools you may have to buy to do the job, it's a no brainer really .

    But as said, get a copy of elsawin and all you need to know will be there.

    that sounds a tad over priced
    I just bought a timing bet kit, water pump and some G12++ all for 140 - getting someone qualified to fit it for me for 80! Total cost of job 220

    It does sound a bit overpriced, I had to have my cam sensor replaced and did the belt (and all tensioners) and water pump done at the same time.. that was just over 400...

    I have been quoted 250 for cambelt and waterpump change at a VW specalist so I guess I should be ripping the guys hand off at this!

    Hi just an update couldnt get onto the internet for a while but done my cambelt and waterpump on saturday, I should of put more information on, i am a Technician for BMW and was just wanting to get a heads up of what tools were needed ie audi specialist tools and what would need to be removed for timescale etc.

    As for price you can get alot cheaper prices if you use unoffical parts but for piece of mind id rather pay abit more and know the parts will hold up.

    Quick Summary of the Job
    Only special tool needed was a crankshaft locking tool
    Camshaft locking pins - i just used drill bits

    What needed to be removed
    Engine Covers
    Cam Covers..
    Fuel Filter and pipes
    Coolant Expension tank and Lines
    O/S/F Wheel and wheel arch liner
    Bottom Pulley
    and the worst bit the O/S Engine mount which was a pain in the arse !

    Hi pal how did you find the swap? Would it be something a home mechanic could do, I have done a cambelt on my old Rover 200 ages ago with not much hassle. What you think?
