I have noticed a lot of people replacing the front grill with one that is all blacked out. What I was wondering is why don't people just repaint instead of going the expensive route?

because you need to get it painted professionally with plastic primer for the central areas. The chrome bit is proper metal and that needs sanding down and painting correctly too. For the cost of a new grille its easier to just swap!

I got a black FK grille from FK direct in Germany for £58 delivered, is it really worth the hassle?

If you have the skills/tools to do it well then go for it. If not then it will look good for a few months but the paint will flake once a few stone/flies have hit it.

I was thinking of just doing everything except the chrome. I have experienced the flaking off the paint when I have done previous autos, so I do not intend on painting the chrome. I am not sure if I will experience flaking on the painted surfaces. What do you think?
