Connecting IPhone to stock iPod interface in glovebox

    First post so go easy!

Today bought a 2007 a3 Sportback which has what i think is an ipod dock in the glovebox (I dont have any other adaptors than the one i bought it with). My iPhone 3GS doesnt fit in properly currently so was thinking of getting one of these. Would it work?

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Extension-dock...item2a06478198

Am i also right in saying it wont charge it unless i get one of these:

    Thanks

shud do im in the same situation , had mine a couple of years nearly now and seen the extension cable last week and was going to buy it just havent had time , you could get away with just using the secound product for both charging and listening to music ,but you would still have the iphone just hanging and not very secure .

Works with my iPhone. Its just hard getting it to line up with the connector but it does fit.

Its ****e anyway, doesn't show track names or anything so its a total lottery what you'll end up listening to. Waste of money.

So you can't choose songs on the iPhone itself? (so the connection acts like an aux input) or does the screen become useless?

do the stock iPod connections come with different adaptors?

Thanks for the help so far

You control the iPhone using the stereo but all you get is 6 playlists that show up on the screen that are numbered 1 to 6 so you dont know whats what as it doesn't list the playlist names and the tracks themselves are just numbers so again you dont have a clue whats what till it starts playing. Its pointless.
An Aux-in would actually be better because at least then you can choose what you want to listen to as you control it via the iPod/iPhone rather than via the stereo.

Think you have to press CD twice to get to control the iPhone. It doesn't automatically switch to playing music off the iPhone like it does when you put a CD in.

Darn. I agree an aux input would be more flexible. Is there any way of converting the iPod connection to one?

If not I may just get the items listed in my OP and setup some playlists and live with the terrible setup

I'm not sure, its really annoying because if I'd bought my A3 6 months later it would of come with an aux-in next to the cigarette lighter!

    Found this http://www.cablejive.com/inputcable.html

But it won't work as explained at the bottom of this:

My iPhone 3G Works fine using the Scosche passPORT, just have to ignore the 'incompatible accessory' message on the iphone screen.

Ok thanks. Does it just play the 5 playlists or allow more control?

Just the standard 5 playlists or number 6 for all the ipod contents (i.e. exactly the same as the kit I had in my 2006 A3!) - couldn't justify the extra company car tax for RNS-E plus AMI...

Can you set it to shuffle on playlist 6?

Yes - that's what I have it on - random for all songs...
