K & N airfilters

Having seen how ridiculously long & bent the air intake of my N/A FSI is I've been looking about online & saw this:

I thought bold power claims, heat soak & an oily filter so near the MAF = mmmm.

I then read this on their site:

Failing maf are usually due to people over oiling them. K&N say something like 1ml or even less to oil it. Surely this isnt enough to travel up air box, bit of air pipe and kill the maf!

The MAF on my car is right next to the air filter. It was the route the air has to go to get into the engine thas seems badly designed but maybe its needed to match someting else or you loose torque etc?

Good to see the other side of the fence rather than K & N PR.
