Hi guys, I have had a search for help on this but not sure what I find is the same as my problem.
as with any noise it's pretty hard to describe but hope you can help

I have a singing / whaling noise coming from the rear of my S3
it sounds metallic but like a thin metal, sounds a bit like something rubbing against a body panel. it gets louder and higher pitched the faster I go but does not seem to be directly related to the speed. it does not go off when I press the brakes.
I have changed the rear discs and pads recently and have checked the heat shields around the exhaust and cannot see or feel anything loose.

has anyone else had this??

Thanks for the help

Like mattyboy said, could be diff or bearings.

Would that be the wheel bearings or are there diff bearings? is there any way of diagnosing if it is the diff?

this seems to be more when I accelerate rather than the speed I go, i.e its louder the harder I put my foot down.
any suggestions for further diagnosing the diff?

you need a press for the bearings but hubs dont seem to be that much more so you might find that easier to do (about £50ish per side ).
