How solid are 1.8t engines after 100k?

As my S3 hit the 100k mark last week i'm wondering what could be around the corner as in engine issues, if any!!

Should i look to sell or can i relax knowing that the engine has been looked after and will last another 100k?

I understand it all depends on how well looked after the engine is but how reliable are these engines after the 100k mark? Anyone running their S3 to 150k yet?

There a solid engine as long as they have been serviced, see how much service history is with the car, i know for one over 190k and still going strong.

Hi, providing the engine has had regular oil changes and been properly maintained 100,000 miles is no biggie, my previous A4 1.8T Sport is still going strong now with over 170,000 miles on the clock and is on the origional trubo and clutch despite being remapped. The key to logevity is good quality oil changed regularly, regular servicing, cambelts etc, and let the engine warm up before giving it beans, and if shutting down after a high speed blast give it a few miles steady driving to let the turbo cool down .

I drove a 153k miles CustomsCode stage1, and it's making good power throughout the rev range, quite impressed with it myself.

Mine has 104k and is fine..... as long as they have regular servicing etc they are fine... change the oil regularly and change the oil pick up pipe if you even suspect its not had regular changes or been on AVS...

Cool... Mines had a good life so i should be ok to keep it a couple more years considering i only hit 100k last week... very hard to part with this car!

Im thinking of giving it a minor facelift. Was in two minds at first but will go ahead now.

Thanks for all the replys.. i'll get some before and after pics up for you guys in due course.

BTW My cars been on AVS servicing since i've owned it (was on 30k at the time). Is changing the oil pick up pipe necessary ?

AVS is a crap idea and I'd suggest changing to normal intervals ASAP to anyone on AVS, Oil in these engines does not go on for ever and many have had issues with AVS and the oil going crap on them, change it every 7-10 K use quality synthetic oil and you'll be fine IMHO

Quantum Gold usually, but last service, I used Valvoline Engine Oil Fully-Synthetic 5W30, cos of the lack of mileage I was doing, it's under 60k miles still my S3.

OMG.. thats something that needs to be prioritised in my to do list!

My service is booked at the end of this month, does this idealy need to be done before or after the service? (I'd get it done at the same time but don't want to stump up k's to Audi to do it).

Where are you based Harj? If your car has 100k miles already, why the need to take to Audi for servicing for the sake of a stamp? Local independant specialists is the way forward for specialist cars like an S3, I service my one pretty much myself.

Im based in west london Jojo, not far from Wets london Audi. I guess your right about the stamp but i always thought it would be worth having a FASH, just in case i decided to sell.

    Where would you recommend?

BTW i'd love to service the car myself, just lack the tools and knowhow, i suppose a oil change cant be that hard to do..

the engines are practically bomb proof mechanically. my 20vt gti is on 150k miles, i fully expect it to see 225k miles, just like my 16v gti

they are sensitive to servicing. later ones are on 20k intervals, if yours is i really recommend you get the sump down, youd have to be mad not to.

5w40 fully synth oil is a must, 7k-8k intervals due to the way the 20vt really seems to cook the stuff
