Aircon fan noisey. help?

Hi all.
Finally tracked down an annoying whine/ noise.

When i start my car (2001 s3) with the climate on.. I get an annoying squeek/ squeel for around 10 seconds.
Today i traced it down to being one of the condenser fans..
The one nearest the battery.

Is this a common fault?.. easily repaired?. Lubed?
Will it need replacing?. If so can it be done in situe.. or will the front end need to come off?.

Did you get around to this at all? I believe I'm having the same issue ATM since I've got the system regassed.
