erm id personally stay clear of Tcut, you'll probably create more swirls using it!! sounds like you need a proper machine polish to me

    AHHHHH THE T WORD!

    Don't use T-Cut.

Menzerna 203s on Audi paint if you want to rid yourself of swirls by hand (difficult). As Timotey says, a good machine polish is the only real method of getting rid of swirls.

Throw the T Cut in the bin.

As has been said there are better products that wont ruin your paint. If you're doing it by hand then have a look at Auto Glym Super Resin Polish. It has fillers in it and can give some great results if the paints not too bad. Anything more than very mild defects though will need a maching (rotary or DA) polish as you wont get them out of hard Audi paint by hand.

I use either a rotary but lately tried a DA hand sander with speed adjust on it...its great for minor work and easier to handle than the rotarty (rotary can kill paint in the wrong hands).

Have a look at the guides in the detailing section,....full of info.

I'll add to the advise already given. Both the above products are good, however VAG paints are renowned for their hard clear coat application. My advise would be to post up some pictures of the affected car and we can advise in more depth. Menzerna PO203S is a polish, you probably wont get the finish you require with this product alone but a mixture of S100 and PO203S maybe even PO106FA would give a nice clean finish. It really does need to be used with a machine to achieve great results on a whole car, rather than individual panels. Say your hood is worse than the rest of the car for example!!

So assuming you wish to use a machine:

The general rule would be on fairly bad paintwork with moderate swirling would be to use Menzerna PO85RD 3.02 (intensive polish) to start with. If you do not get the required result then move to Menzerna S100 (power gloss) or a mixture of both depending on the cars state. On my last 3 Audi Details I was forced to use S100 as the clear coat was that hard. The main objective is to remove as little clear coat as possible, so start light and work your way through the products until you are satisfied with the results of the "first" pass of the polisher. You would refine the finish per panel then using something like PO106FA and could use a mixture of two Menzerna products to get a really sharp and clear paint correction with minimal effort required, just takes time and patience.

You'd need to seal the paint finish then using FinishKare 1000p or Collinite (both cheap and very good products). You could then wax the car if you required, I always do, the product would depend on the colour of the car!

If however you are only doing this by hand then you could use Autoglym SRP (super resin polish) followed by a wax, Autoglym do a High Definition wax which is "ok"! This would not give you any real correction it would "hide" some imperfections which are visible and mask the swirls slightly at best.

It depends on how bad the car is to start with and what you want to achieve with it. A perfect finish would require machining, but an "ok" finish can be achieved by hand methods only. Get some pictures up and tell us what you wish to achieve.

    Hope that helps a little!

I doubt you would be able to hire it, plus you won't be up on it's use.

For the fuss and bother, I would see if there is a local detailer that can take the car back to pristine condition for you to then keep on top of.

Oh, by the way, DA stands for Dual Action, it basically mimics the movement of your hand but at several hundred times the rate.

    Oooft.

    Machine Polishing is going to be your only option;

That was achieved through just a Dual Action polisher, with Lime Prime and a 3M polishing pad.

Where are you based lad? If I know your location, I can recommend.

I have added the process above chap.

I wouldn't like to quote for others, as I only do it as a hobby at the weekends (if/when I have one free). Happy to PM you, but let's work on suitable locations first.

No worries. Near me then, ish.

Price on machines is around the 1-200 mark. Coupled with pads, polishes, etc etc.

However, the thing that all detailers, myself included, will bang on about is the experience. Yes, DAs are safe, but guarantee you will not get 100% out of the machine on your first go. That's nothing against you or any other person starting out, but it isn't pick up and play.

Of course I will push for you to pay/A N Other for a detail, but I can assure you from talking to a lot of newbies, it is much more worth getting the car in a fit state with a one off cost, and then me teaching you how to stay on top of it.

    LOL...get in there son!

I'm the same as JD - Amateur Detailer during weekends when I have the time, got a fair few cars booked in over the coming months.

My last detail was an RS4, one which was as bad as they come. See the link below for a write up and pictures of the difference. This is what can be achieved with the right products and a little patience!

    http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/showthr....G-vs-Audi-RS4

I really hope you get it sorted (I can't see pictures in work, but i'm sure judding by comments that its pretty bad), remember though everything is possible given time & money!

Keep us updated, it's nice to see other cars that have been restored to their former glory!

    W'ever Trevor!

Any, back to the topic, I would suggest looking into a detailer. Jimmeh is more likely to be able to book you in than I am, but still worth a chat for June as the other half is away, meaning more time!

Not sure about where Jimmeh is from, why don't you PM him to find out?

120 for a machine polish? Does that include paint correction or not? Anyone can machine polish a car but achieving correction (de-swirling etc) is something entirely different.

It seems cheap for a full correction detail.

Bloody steep based on the fact that most cars I book in take two days. Put it this way, Clio's took 10 hours over one day for paint correction alone (all that most wanted). That was 125.

It's not in bad shape just a bit of swirl on most panels and the odd little scratch here and there. She just needs a proper good going over.

I think Jimmeh is Nottingham based, but its worth going to him or him coming to you, if you want top results.

Seen alot of his work over the time and I have to say, it is of a VERY high standard.
