TIMING BELT OR CHAIN

HI JUST WONDERING I HAVE JUST BOUGHT A AUDI A3 1.8T 1999 AND WANTING TO NO IF IT HAS A TIMING BELT OR CHAIN.

JUST ON EURO PARTS NOW ORDERING EVERYTHING TO GIVE IT A FULL SERVICE AND NOTICED THEY LIST EITHER A BELT OR CHAIN FOR MY MOTOR. THANKS

ok thanks. ive just looked on autodata and see what you mean now. how many miles should the chain be changed. thanks

I dont think the chain ever needs changing, the belt on the other hand is 60,000 miles or 5 years, if you are thinking of doing the belt yourself then be careful it is a bitch of a job and not for the feint hearted. If changing the belt do the water pump at same time along with the belt tensioner etc. Good luck
