Any body running a FMIC alongside existing coolers?

As title, would this be feasable so you would have all 3 (or 2 a3 )? if people are thinking big turbos, maybe worth thinking about? or not.... i cannot see a major problem except maybe lag?
    what do you guys think?

Glen (Ess_Three) used to run a Forge mk4 Golf side mount and custom front mount but said it didn't make any real difference..

Personally I can't see the point as a decent FMIC should do it all... you would get less joins to leak and less pressure drop across it all...

Here is a pic showing the FMIC and the SMIC together while I was fitting it over at AH Fabs...

As you can see the outlet of the SMIC doesn't line up with the hose for the FMIC... they are also different sizes so will have to have a bit of funky pipe work to sort out properly but inevitably it will affect flow...

Coincidently big turbos actually heat the air less than the K04 as they are typically working well within their efficiency whereas the K04 when mapped is a little outside its efficiency and will generate more heat as a result...

SMIC's heat soak something chronic as the airflow isn't as good to them as having the cooler up front... a decent FMIC will do everything you need and the hassle plus expense of leaving in the SMIC's isn't worth it IMO

I have no probs with my AH cooler running a GT3071r at 1.7bar boost...

i would not be bothered about the pipe work,(fabricator ) it would be lag that would concern me, but if you think the fmic copes well...you have not really pushed yours yet have you?, im going BT soon and just wondered if there was any gain @ + 400 bhp

Alex at AH reckons the core is good for 500bhp... flow wise its an issue due to the 51mm pipework required to get an easy fit behind the S3 bumper but I am planning on changing this to 60mm...

As for pushing it, I have done quite a bit of logging under boost and acceleration runs etc and posted it in the FMIC thread I started thats now in the stickies... While I don't 'push' my car on a daily basis I do monitor IAT's with my Liquid gauge and under normal circumstances IAT's rarely go more than 10 degrees above ambient and when pushed they recover well (unlike the SMIC's)

Airflow is still a problem though on the S3.... part of the FMIC is covered by the bumper bar/bumper so doesn't get direct airflow. I am thinking of looking at a way to fit a scoop or deflector to direct air to the top somehow...

If you have no probs loosing your fogs then you can fit a bigger core with larger end tanks but if retaining the fogs and having it OEM then things will be a bit tougher...

thanks, looking at the installs, you can see that it is not being used to its full potential, with how low the grill is, maybe a splitter type thing to scoop the air up

Was thinking more of fitting something to channel air from the top grille tbh...

it looks like it is too tight against the bumper for that... 8p bumper would have solved it

I doubt I'll be doing that but you can if you like

TBH, I haven't found it wanting yet and if I really want to keep it cool I could go water/meth injection
