engine number

can anyone tell me where the engine number is on a year 2000 s3 as my engine code dont match the one in the boot and want to make sure engine is all above board and does anyone know a way of finding out if a engine is above board or stolen ?

chassis number is by the wipers,think you have to raise the bonnet and its in a small plastic window....oh and Hello and Welcome to the site

i have the chassis number thats all ok its just the engine number itself

Should have some info in the service history wallet, normally on the first page

may jusy of been changed matey. cam belt could of snapped oil pump gone all sorts. Dont mean its stolen.

yeah i have no reason to think its stolen but i need to put car through a vic test so want to try and make sure
