Great pictures OllieH, very clear now. Doesn't look like you were in a rush!

A few questions before I do the installation:

    - What did you block off the various un-used pipes/connectors with?
    - How do you drain the can? Even with the relay box removed, access to the bottom of the can looks pretty tight.
    - Finally (!) don't you need any pipe clips on the various new connections, or will they be secure without?

    Thanks again for the guide.

    Cheers pal.

This picture shows the sort of room there is. The strut bar is removed here but even when fitted there's enough room to get a small pot under there and unscrew the drain tap.

As for the blanked off connections, the only one that actually needs blanking is the one on the underside centre of the inlet manifold, shown here:

Can't remember what size hose it is, 3/8" or 1/2", it was a piece from the pcv pipework I had taken off. All I did was find a bolt that fitted the ID of the pipe and jubileed it in.

The connection on the left hand end of the manifold is reused for the brake servo feed, with check valve inline:

As described a couple of pages ago, this is just a temporary fit until I can get some silicon pipe and another check valve to replace it.

The only other connections on the inlet manifold are the two feeds to the N249/DV and the FPR.

For the moment I've only put a jubilee clip on the PRV to TIP connection as it's quite tight and kept wanting to pop out. The other connections seem secure but I'll be fitting jubilees to them this weekend anyway

Just to add, if you get stuck at any point and need some advice, feel free to post here or pm me and I'll see if I can help.

    No probs pal.

Yours is looking good, a stealth install aswell. Looked into fitting mine like yours but there isn't the room on the S3 to pipe it that way. The N75 gets right in the way.

Where did you get your check valve from thats on your servo feed? I need one like that.

True, all the one way valves seem to come with the vac pipe attached according to ETKA and are expensive to buy new, better to get one from a breakers yard for pennis than to spend 10+ for a whole pipe.

I still haven't managed to get mine fitted, work commitments getting in the way but as soon as I do fit it, I'll post some pics up too. I'm gonna attach my can to the battery box so it will look like the one in the link posted from the UKMKIV's forum.

Sounds like a plan. Will have to find a breakers that hasn't converted to one of these 'request the part you're after websites'!

Will be interesting to see the battery box install when you get it done. When I looked I couldn't see a good enough way of mounting it without it looking tacky, and there wasn't much room to drain it either with it sitting almost right on top of the gearbox.

Well, it's a bit late, and not entirely related as I've used a different can, but I thought I'd add my efforts into this thread to save posting elsewhere.

I didn't want to spend a fortune on the can you guys used, so invested 29 in an ebay jobby, and the quality is incredibly good, the top didn't seal 100% when I got it, but I made a gasket from a cereal box, and it's sealled down really well.

I couldn't find anywhere behind the TIP to mount the can nicely like Tim did, I'm going to modify the engine covers so tehy still fit when I get a chance.

    Here's the pics:

Just after I started, I fitted the can itself last week when I had a bit of spare time. I removed the battery, and drilled the side of the battery box to mount the plate. I had to trim the fins off the back of the box to get the can to sit square. Two cap headed allen bolts and it's in there nice and tight.

At this point I'd removed the Y piece from the rocker cover, but the rest is still in

With everything ripped out, you're left with this bit. Attach your chosen breather hose to the end, and refit it into the crank case, making sure the sealing ring sits properly

Here's the finished article. I'm not totally happy with the pipe I used to be honest, it's oil resistant bilge hose, but it's a bit too flimsy for my liking, so that'll get replaced.

Aside from the cheap nasty hose, I'm really happy with it. it's solidly fitted, easy to drain where it is, and it's done away with the chance of PCV related boost leaks, and stops the IC filling with oil.

Job done, and all for 35

that's the can I bought mate, in black of course so as not to look too gay. Very nicely made too. impressed for such little money. It's all assembled with decent threads, rubber O-ring seals, and a knurled alloy drain plug on the bottom.

Just ordered my Autobahn TIP and some 3mm and 4mm silicone piping. Just need to source some jubilee clips and 2 90 degree pipe bends and I'll be ready to fit.

Just re-read this entire thread again and it all makes crystal clear sense now.

    Just found these:

    http://www.dan-koi.co.uk/subcat1085.html

The 90 degree elbows are half way down the page for 69p each! I might try to get these from a local aqaurium or something so I dont have to wait for delivery.

The only thing that would concern me is the thickness of them, the blue ones i have are solid as. If the ones in the first link are any good, may order them, cant go wrong for 69p lol.

Another question to pose to those who have already fitted their can.

What actually needs to be jubalee clipped? I noticed in Ollie's pics he hardly has anything clipped and wonder what pipes are the ones most likely to need clipping. I'm going to get all the necesary clips this weekend.

    Cheers guys

Well, in theory, none of it is ever under any pressure, and very minimal vacuum too. depending on how tight your hoses are into the fittings you could run it without any clips at all. if the hoses are a loose fit though you'd need to clip it to avoid any vacuum leaks.

this weekend im starting on building a kit to replace the breather hoses under the manifold that like to split.

im looking to just down size the rubber hoses silghtly to make a tight connection and see if it can function without clips. 8mm on the 10mm nipples etc. as prawn said, the vacuum is minimal but as long as it holds boost im happy, so the boost leak kit is coming out too

Thanks guys. I'll probably try and clip it all anyway just to be safe. I'll probably be able to reuse most of the old TIP clips on my new TIP so will just need to buy a few more to cover myself.

Has anyone who has fitted the OCC replaced the check valve in the pvc system with a new valve, if so where did you purchase it from?

Sorry abit unclear, i meant has anyone used a new check valve to the brake servo or just used the one from pcv system? If they have replaced it with a new one where they get it from.

Ah ok. No, I have just used the old one for now. I plan on gettin one of the 'two port' check valves used on the A3 from a scrappy at some point, to replace the 'three port' one I've got now which has one of the ports blanked. You can't buy just this check valve from the dealer unfortunately.

I fitted my Autobahn TIP and catch can this weekend and it was a nightmare! It took about 5 hours for everything and I ran into one major issue with trying to get the Hocky Puck valve to fit directly on the TIP!

Ollie I have no idea how you managed to get it to fit directly onto the TIP because I tried everything. I even tried filing the lip off the valve and I had to trim a bit off the TIP because I'd rucked up the silicone so much! In the end I had to use a piece of the old system which was a smaller diameter as a joiner to get the valve on, I hope that wont cause a problem!!!!

I also ended up blowing out the nut and bolt I'd used to block off the hose under the inlet mani, but that's sorted now.

Car hasn't been overly happy since I did this either, and threw up the EML yesterday with the following errors. I think this is where the inklet mani bolt had come out though:

17963 - Charge Pressure: Maximum Limit Exceeded
16497 - Intake Air Temp. Sensor (G42): Signal too high
17863 - Exhaust Gas Temp Sensor 1 (G235): Implausible Signal
16487 - Mass Air Flow Sensor (G70): Signal too High

I'm off to check out the AIT error and Exhaust gas error on Ross-Tech.

Yeah can was a whore! The main stumbling block was with the hocky puck valve not going into the tip directly, I've used a thin piece of pipe with each end covered in electrical tape to pad it out but I'm worried that this is now a bottle neck in the system plus the electrical tape is going to get hot and drop off.

I might buy one of these (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEWAX:IT) to try and make it fit better but I dont understand how others have plumbed there's directly into the TIP, especially Ollie who has the same TIP as me!!!

dunno mate, i know it went onto the standard tip on the A3 with no problems.....i would assume the silicone would be the same diameter...... although the puck doesnt sit on the tip normally on the S3 does it? like it does on the A3

I just followed Ollies guide mate so I thought it would be nice and easy!

I checked the botch job when I got home from work and the tape is starting to come loose already so i've just bought that hose joiner. I might have to buy a new hocky puck too as I hacked mine up a bit to try and get it to fit!
