Bleed valves???

Hi all, a pal said today i should put a bleed valve on my car! said it would give me more power and the ecu can alter fueling so suit as long as you dont go mad? my cars an A3 1.8 20v T, any advice and thoughts?

a bleed valve is nothing like a dump valve. check on google

do not put a bleed valve on your a3. the ecu will go nuts. the ecu controls the boost, if more boost is produced than it is expecting it will realise and just go into safe mode.

if you do indeed mean a bleed valve, dont, one was on my s3 when i bought it, constantly going into limp mode, although it was def more powerful with it on it is very bad for engine/turbo/ecu as you are trying to fool the ecu and it will try and compensate and potentially could go bang

that said, i have a bleed valve for sale :)

Mmmm? he told me a pipe from the turbo, cut it and fit a bleed valve to bleed some of the air pressure out to make the waste gate open later! just been talking to him and he says my car will run about 8-9 psi boost! the ecu can handle up to 11psi without any problems at all? but he did say fit a boost gauge so u know your not going over that or problems can happen like BANG!!!!!!
but his no expert, he said hes dont it to some of his old escorts an so on!

yer it would be plumbed in between your n75 and actuator on the turbo
again mate dont do it, because of the way these cars operate the maf monitors air into the engine boost levels etc if it detects a discrepency between the levels it will think there is a leak and go into limp mode, on old cars its fine as they dont operate in this way

again bottom line here is mate that dont fit one
your mate might know about escorts and the such but obviously dont know much about vag's

Dont worry! wont be going that route! was more curious, like you say old escorts ect, not as sophisticated as todays motors so could fool em!
 
The other place to fit a bleed valve is between the charge pipe and N75. Bleed the air out there. Basically the same as between the N75 and actuator though.

Bottom line. Want more power..........? Get a remap. At least thats safe(er) power on tried and tested software.

Don't p*ss about with things yourself because it will end up bad. Very bad.

He says having fitted a MBC to my A3.... Pot, Kettle? lol

Just too add, playing with the boost in this way could well lead to an excessive boost spike that could well bend/throw a rod... (isn't that right Welly me ol' mucker lol)

I've got a 'bleed valve' boost controller on my car and only put it up by 0.2bar. The ecu does have some tolerance but if you go too high it will go into limp mode. You do lose top end bhp but gain low down torque. I would just get a remap instead mate, much simpler and get a lot more power.
 
if youre aiming for a few extra psi, isnt that was an n75 HJ or K etc does?
 
Depends on if this A3 is AGU or not as yo how stroppy the ecu gets
AGU has no measurement of boost so wont know its running more, other than its getting more airflow, which it will try and cater for to an extent on the fueling.. by how far however I dont know. Go too far, run lean and you WILL damage the engine

If its a drive by wire motor, then it has a map sensor which means ecu is asking for a boost and controlling the n75 based on what it see's and if it see's a deviation between request and actual >250mb (3.6psi) it will drop into limp mode in a strop

bleed valves are frowned upon on these cars... they aint old cossies and have far better ecu controls than back in the 80's obviously
