Boot unlocking when ignition is switched on

My S3 has developed a little problem recently. When I put the key in the ignission and turn it on, the boot unlocks? I can hear it popping and it shows up on the dash as being open, but when I try to open it its not actually unlocked, I need to take the key back out of the ignission and unlock it as I would do normally.

Does anyone have any idea what is causing this? All I need to do is open and close it and it is fine, but I'm a little puzzled as to why it is unlocking in the first place.

could be a wire chaffed where the wiring goes into the tail gate or a faulty boot switch

Sounds like a faulty boot switch, just check as well that there is nothing blocking the locking mechanism or the boot when its being closed/opened.
