    Build thread!

    Before I start just a MASSIVE THANKYOU to everyone on audi-sport, all your help and information led me to this and I couldn’t of done it without you.
    Here we go, I bought the car in November 08 the a3 was a completely standard facelift 1.8t! the body work was a little rough but it had 58k on the clock with fsh! i managed to haggle it down to Ł3650, which at the time was a bargain.

    It was either get a high mileage s3 or a low mileage a3, with money to spend on it! as i cannot keep my hands off cars and love to modify them it would have to be an a3!

    First thing i did was to put 18'' Kahn alloys as i wanted bigger and aftermarket wheels as i like my car to look a little different, i know a few of you will disagree !
    i also painted the calipers with hammerite gloss red, whilst the wheels were off!

    I then did a few cheaper mods including de-badging except the audi rings and removing the wiper on the back as i like the smooth look!

    The s3 rear bumper followed. i didnt use the guide rails and trimmed the exhaust recess, it fits well with only a slight mis-fit.
    A cat-back exhaust system was then fitted, its an custom exhaust as i wanted the it to fit within the recess, with s3 tips, costing Ł340 fully fitted with a life time warrenty!

    Then i de-chromed the front grill surround again leaving the rings .

    Being a student, i obviously blew all the money i had left over for the car! soooo i left it for abit, then problems occured; engine speed sensor went, water pump failed and two split hoses. i took it to audi each time as i wanted the best for my car but they charged me over 1200 for the repairs .

    All brake pads and discs needed replacing, so with your guys help i researched and decided the 320mm setup would be the best option! Ebay was the best bet for calipers and carriers and got them for just under a 100, i purchased Mintex pads all round and Brembo discs, this cost just under 200.

    Being on my placement year off uni now ment i had money coming in and ofcourse instead of paying off my overdraft i gave into audi-sport and have blown every pay cheque on my car lol!
    A few bits i bought!

    The parts arrived so dismantling of the car began, removing the bumper and headlights.

    I chose to spray the inside of the headlights whilst they were off, following the guide on here! as i again wanted to be different, instead of buying a s3 front bumper i chose to get the rs4 look bumper. i bought a s3 grill to go in place as it looks sooo much better and again de-chromed it! I roughed up the surfaces and used halfords plastic primer and satin black.

    To make most of when the lights were out i fitted phillips blue vision main beam, and ice white dip beam bulbs, which are much better than standard!

    Thanks to prawns thread i bought a turbo revs intercooler and began to fit it!

    I knew the intercooler pipes were uneven and looked a little bit scruffy so i thought i woukd modify the existing pipework and incorperate two 90 degree alloy bends were it met the intercooler. it was really easy to do and looks great, the pipes were about 30 pounds. a forge mass air flow sensor pipe was bought from forge and also fitted into the pipework.

    As i wanted to change a few hoses i also thought i would make up my own ''cold side'' relocation kit to fit the new forge split-r i bought. it turned out much cheaper than buying the forge one and fits great wth the intercooler pipes- i added a forge tip and Kn N induction kit at this point.

    I had to change a few of these pipes around as the hose kept popping off the throttle body (which had a quick clean too)

    Alll was going well, then i tried to fit the bumper!
    due to the very poor quality of the fibre glass bumper and the fact i hadnt put the intercooler as far back as it could go the bumper just wouldnt go on!

    After a month of working on it here and there freezing in the snow cutting, breaking and re-fibreglassing the bumper it started to take shape after bonding steel strips to the wheel arch liners and along the top to strengthen the bolt on points it fitted well.
    once the intercooler was repositioned all was good.

    Time for the spray job, as the paint work was tatty I opted for basically a full respray apart from the roof and bonnet. 2 weeks further without a car and it was ready, I couldn’t of been happier!
    To finish it off I put aero wipers and a cupra splitter on the front.

    Amongst all this a leather interior in great condition popped up on ebay locally, so I couldn’t resist lol!

    Finished engine bay thanks again for inspiration on the cover, u know who u are;

    Rough
    cost;

    Brakes Ł350 inc fitting. GFS car parts
    Alloys and tyres Ł900
    Hoses and pipes Ł200, from www.performancesiliconehoses.com/
    intercooler Ł200
    rs4 style front bumper Ł125
    s3 rear bumper Ł100
    s3 spoiler Ł40
    exhaust Ł340 - Infinity exhausts
    induction kit Ł60
    forge tip Ł100
    forge split-r dv Ł100
    forge mass sensor pipe Ł40
    phillips bulbs dip/main Ł40
    grills; s3 top grill Ł60, rs4 bottom grills Ł100
    leather interior Ł300
    weitec coilovers Ł400 - DPM performance
    spray job Ł1000

    mainly all sourced from E----BAY!

    Still to do
    ;

    Put the font grills in, I have genuine rs4 grills but not sure if I want to hack at them or to buy new mesh.
    Fit the weitec coilovers....... waiting for a whiteline arb.
    Fit s3 roof spoiler
    Fitting of the induction heat shield.
    And finally a remap, hopefully get it done at amd as ive heard great things about them.

    future purchase will be a cat/down pipe!

    Again a massive thank you to everyone on here, hopefully this will help others when wanting to mod theirs.
    Your opininons are welcome good or bad and any further suggestions I could spend my money on…….

    Really good job, nice car!

    If I were you i'd get the downpipe done before the map (if you're going stage 2 or custom map), and forget about sports cats/de-cat.

    could of had a lovely S3 for that money. Is it just me or does the Rs4 bumper not look massively different from S3 bumper, in those photos anyway?

    Does look mint though, well done. Im also not sure how a student could afford all that.

    looking good mate, where did you get the rs4 bumper from? I've been very tempted to get one for my S3, heard bad things about the quality though? Was it much hassle to fix it and get it fitted?

    lsl - ye used the guide on here, but i could actually get the chrome parts out of the headlights so masked up the bulb surrounding! if you do so also be very very careful not to get overspray or to put tape on the chrome as it will rip it straight off!

    - ye got the full interior for 300 but, the door cards wernt leather unfortunately!

    olly p - i bought it off a this guy http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/audi-a3-mk1-s3...item4ced54c42d

    but be very cautious, i got the bumper and it literally didnt fit i had to brake the bit that goes around the grill get the bumper on and re-fibreglass it to fit! it also seems too wide for the a3 so probably a better fit on the s3! the grill (being an s3) had to be carved into it as it usually takes an a3! i think its worth it i love the look especially once ive got the genuine grills and fogs in!

    theres normaly another company that do the bumper which may be a better fit, i also found this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AUDI-S3-2001-R...item3caa5f1a18

    also old interior (recaro black cloth) on ebay! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RECARO-Audi-A3...item414d320e00

    lol, every pay cheque ive had has gone on it, plus a little from the ''student loan company''!

    Fitted the heatshield on the weekend, i do need to put a bottom to it but its virtually flush with the bonnet and sits really well, before u ask how i did it, i used a cooker exctractor fan cover which happened to be a perfect fit with a few tweeks and shaping of the bonnet, its also stainless with a polished inner face!

    Hodge; saw your bora at ultimate dubs, what a beast is very nice mate!

    QUICK UPDATE,

    As i was going to ultimate dubs thought i best give it a good clean/polish/wax!

    A couple of Youtube videos later i went to halfords and bought myself the meguiars smooth surface clay bar kit, polish and wax - 3 part! as this is highly recommended and i wanted to try out the clay bar process.

    Wow, wot an end finish but it definately takes time, after 6 hours i had a finished car, i also fitted the s3 spoiler whilst it was sunny!

    here are some pics;

    spoiler fitted;

    roof shine!

    i always find cleaning the windows a BIATCH, so asked advice off the mother! she lent some ''white vinegar based cleaner'' which i thought would make the car smell like a local chippy but oh no, it is the dogs dangleys. wipe on, wipe off = perfect!

    Even tho i am lowering it with weitec coilovers, i still think it needs something on the lower sides to match the level of the front and rear bumper. i was thinking about s3 sideskirts but would like something different anyone have any suggestions?

    Just mix a few drop of clear vinegar into a squirt bottle of water. Same results for a fraction of the price! Also, old newspaper is THE material of choice when cleaning glass - streak free everytime...

    coilovers fitted!

    finally got the funds to get the arbs and the cost of fitting it all, so bought the eibach 25mm anti roll bar kit off DPM!
    here are some pictures of th weitec gt coilover kit fitted! the front rubs slightly on harsh cornering but i still think the back could go a little lower.
    really does make the a3 sit sooo much better.

    The ride feels a million times better now, theres no body roll and its not too crashy. i would highly recommend weitec coilovers to anyone!

    also fitted some L.E.D rear number plate lights, which look great and cheap from ebay!

    had a couple of spare days so also polished up my inlet manifold.
    this was done by using three different grades of wet and dry, i think it was p 320, p800 and p1200! after a heavy session with the sander i used a polishing drill attchment from halfords combined with autosol to bring it up to a mirror finish shine.

    very nice that mate, very nice indeed...loving the front bumper..... not keen on the intercooler pipes showing but thats each to their own.... overall car looks spot on, when ya done with the megs 3 stage you might find a trip over to polished bliss website insightful whilst the 3 stage is very good, it is a lot of hard work considering the benefits when compared to more superior products

    You may have seen my recent project (the misus A3) which has most of the mods you have, i would recommend the downpipe and sports CAT before mapping as your virtually running full stage 2 spec as it is.... car feels easier whilst revving up the range

    and finally take heed of the recent AMD threads.... personally i wouldnt touch with a barge pole given recent posts from several members

    all in all top notch job..and also aiding me as i was going to go looking for the lights blacking out mod page sometime soon

    got the leon cupra side skirts sprayed last week, so fitted them in the amazing weather today!

    the skirts make the sides lower a fair bit without looking out of place, really happy with the reults!

    Ace looking car. I love your headlights and the RS4 bumper with the grills.

    Have you got a link for the carbon fibre vinyl for the size of the roof
