Tailgate Release mind of it's own

Hi there just wondering if anyone has the answer to this? 2001 quattro locks in doors and tailgate all lock correctly on the 3 x buttons on key fob, but when unlock car stick key in ignition and start engine the boot lock unlocks itself!!! w.t.f.!!! Filled up with fuel yesterday and opened petrol flap boot unlocked itself ??? v strange just wondered if anyone could point me in right direction saying me hours of fun and enjoyment.......NOT!

Seen this same fault a few years back on a B5 RS4, If I remember correctly it was water ingress in the boot lid effecting the soft touch buttons. Take the boot lid trim off & have a look, if it turns out thats not the problem you can disconnect the lock solinoid/actuator while your in there & that will stop it happening until you locate the fault. The boot can then only be opened with the key blade.
