When the coil pack fails/or intermittant etc will the any lights on the dash flag up ? why i ask is im trying to get to the bottom of a missfire whilst on boost but no mangment lights etc come on

I didnt get any dash warnings. I only got it once when it was cold and i tried to pull away before it had settled and running on all 4. Even then i think it was just the vibration and the Generic engine management light telling me to stop being a D**k and wait a few mins..
But none on the boost either... a quick plug in with VAGCOM or equivalent at a local garage can tell you which coil and when its being gay.

Misfires? I've had countless problems with this. If VAG COM doesn't show you anything useful, then change the plugs first.
If not the plugs then could possibly be coils, or also the wiring across the top of the rocker cover to the coils. See this thread (http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/showthread.php?87019-What-to-look-for-if-you-keep-blowing-coils) for more info on the dodgy wiring!
