Engine oil check problem

this morning i was puttin some engine oil into my car and by accident i snapped the holder in which the engine oil checker sits in - i can pull the rod out fine to check the oil but as the holder is snapped there is gaps and im worried will anything happen to the engine as this isnt covered?...can anyone tell me is it expensive to repair this?
