Guys and girls I need your help in deciding where I will mount my iPhone. I'm about to order the xcarlink with the bluetooth module and need to buy a cradle for my phone and wire it in somewhere that doesn't involve hacking up the dash board.

Can anyone suggest a good place to mount the phone and also a decent cradle if anyone has any experience of either.

If any of you are already rocking a car kit and have you phone mounted in your car please attach a few pics for me.

Thanks in advance

Near the a pillar, can remove the lower dash and thread the cable up, will look nice and neat.
As for a cradle theres loads of windscreen ones nocking about just google.

I was hoping for a non windscreen one as I think they look a bit tacky and tend to drop off when you least expect it..... normally mid bend!

Thats only when you buy from poundland :p

The official iPhone windscreen mount is superb with integrated speaker. Doesn't come off but it's not cheap a £100! <friend has it>

Very good. One of those vent mounts looks quite good. Any experience Paul?

Had one on my A4, worked like a treat and of course was solid (unlike some cheap ones) and no marking of the dash etc...

Downside is its not cheap and car specific...

Paul was that a vent mount or a stereo mount? I will then need to find a suitable cradle to fix to the mounting bracket.

I think I prefer this one:

i have a vent mount and found it was too low down for my iphone if i wanted to use the tom tom, but for phone calls i guess its ok.

Westle,

I maybe able to help with the current set up I have, I too have the xcarlink, but I wont be able to post some pics up for you until tomorrow, I have my christmas meal tonight, I will try if I get home in a reasonable state to do it tonight for you pal.

I have a leather trimed mount that follows the curve of the dash (passenger side) which I got from ebay for £30 and a brodit ipod touch/phone swivel mount for £22 (so you can turn it to watch movies) attached to the leather mount.

Ive got the Xcarlink and its brilliant! charges the iPhone 3GS too :)

I use a Brodit ProClip and Holder which i got from http://www.dsldevelopments.com/brodit/holder/Apple+iPhone 3G-Brodit-Holder.asp

you need to purchase the Holder and the ProClip:

Brodit holder is the second one down on the left "Brodit Mobile Phone Passive Holder Tilt Swivel for Apple iPhone 3G"
This needs to be screwed into the mount.

then select your car then " Brodit ProClip for Audi S3 2002 - Angled mount"

i'll take more pics in daylight if you want, it actually does look very nice :icon_thumright:

I mount mine in my pocket if this helps.

I just ran a cable down from the Head Unit into the cubby tray under the ashtray. I then just connect it up and leave it. I don't see the advantage of mounting it as the voice dialling on it works pretty well and my head unit shows all the numbers if I want to scroll through them.

Only time anyone needs to look at it is when using the maps and the screen is too small to read whilst driving unless sat in traffic. With the lead curled behind the ashtray a passenger can pick it and pull it out to look at it (or play games!).

That's all well and good if you have an after market head unit that allows you to scroll through the numbers ect but I'm using the standard Symphony stereo.

No problem mate glad to help a fellow S3 owner.

Was with all the Managers last night and was drunk but not stupid drunk, I'm a early bird whatever state I was in the night before anyhow. Plus I want to tinker with the old girl today but its raining again.

The lever is off an 8P S3, got the whole gaiter and trim for £60 off ebay sometime ago, they have a few on ebay germany site for around 80 - 90 euros) Audi want £158 if your thinking about it.

I also added led in the door handles the other day along with the ambient lighting.

Yeah I did the ambient lighting last week. Big waste of time I thought, cant really see it.

Tomorrow I'm re-soldering my bose amp, fitting a new fuel filter, bypassing the n249 valve and fitting a piece of sound deadning foam to my rattly passenger door.
