    S3 engine removal

Anyone take the engine out of there S3 with the gear box still in place?

I'm stripping my engine down at the minute.

As the block needs machining i'm taking all the pump's off, turbo is off, belts and pulleys and everything bolted to the block with the engine still in the bay.

It looks like i will have loads of room to move it to the side to clear the flywheel and clutch.

Has anyone done it that way?

I'm only doing it this way is the car is in a council rented garage so i don't have that much space.

Yep can be done, refitting is more awkward, but again possible.

I have done 2 swaps on 1.8ts so wont be much different once you get down to the nitty gritty.

On a transverse engine I would imagine its easier to take the lot out in one hit... front panel off, drop it down a bit then out the front... imo of course

    er i meant an A3 mate !!

Box can stay in place, its awkward is all. Will be worse on a quattro due to the location of the transferbox and brackets

EDIT, I am alos assuming the front panel was removed before he started all this, as access is next to impossible otherwise.
