Hi guys - apologies for this question as I can imagine it has been done to DEATH but I am new to this forum so just need a little guidance.

I am jumping from a BMW M3 to S3 (2002 or so) & from what I can gather, I NEED to chip the S3

Also from what I have found so far, the best way to go is either a Revo or AMD chip (or possibly Jabba??)

Just want to see if there are any noticeable differences between them?

Was also planning on putting a new air filter on it....K&N all the way??

Also I am also looking at an unmolested S3 tomorrow - anything I should look out for in particular?

Thanks in advance for your help guys!!

your defo rite man this topic has been killed but in the short of it and this is just what i've read on here!

Revo is aggressive so if you wana be cruising then BOOOOOM power get revo, AMD etc are smoother and more progressive power delivery!

I wouldnt bother with the K&N even tho people give it all that bout them just change the standard panel and it'll be sound as a pound!!

when i've done some bits to mine the map im going for is the Revo as i like aggressive delivery but not everyone into that!!

the above might be complete horse sh1t but thats just what i've picked up reading this place

Hope that helps man

Oh yer and the whole looking out for things mate i looked at probably 20-25 S3's before getting my beast and i would say standard is the FSH,Cambelt (miles/age dependant) make sure things like the brakes tyres etc are all good unless you dont care about buyin new ones if the current are dead! and i would really take your time with it!! there are ALOT of S3's out there that have been repaired and it not listed on the HPI!!!! Just check everything im sure you aint stupid and coming from a Bimmer you know the score!!!

Easy :blackrs4:

Thanks Matt - really appreciate the help/tips!

OK - so as I am not that familiar with S3 pricing, 85k, mostly FS from Audi/then Specialist; non Bose; completely umodded/black, appears to be in very good condition - what would you price it at??

mine exactly the same as that (and the same history lol) with everything bar sunroof and heated seats with 86k and i paid 6k in vgc.

with regards to the remap, everyone will have their own opinion (normally biased in favour of their remap unless they have had mutiple maps)

Reliastically it doesnt really matter which one you go for. Most will take you to 250 ish 260 if your very lucky.

I have custom code and its smooth (however i cant compare it to anything).

i went from custom code to amd and im desperatly trying to go back to custom code didnt have one single problem with custom code software but amd ive had endless trouble since day minuite, also amd and revo mapps are much the same so im lead to belive now i find out guurrrrr

yup most has already been said, expect weak points such as DV and coil packs after the map.....other than that leave the filter unless you want a tiny woosh noise....paper is fine for most applications and will handle flow the same as any aftermarket running remap power (i have smoothed my airbox for a little woosh noise ;) )

I had AMD map on my LCR, it was more progressive but was amazing. I'd recommend them, top top service.

AmD and REVO are totally different maps.

Also with the problems with your car you had a chat with Shaun last week to get your car back in and find whats causing the issue as everything was fine with the car other than a boost leak which you were informed about but it seems something else could have failed since.

As Shaun said, please contact us to book the car back in and we will take a look.

*Free plug for JBS*

JBS have a good offer on atm, about £380 for a custom code remap, forge DV and a green panel filter. Dont think you'll get better than that any where else!

I've recently fitted a green panel filter (apparently the K&N ones can cause problems). As already mentioned, you get more of a turbo wooosh and thats about it! The standard panel filters are good for 300 bhp, a cone filter will loose power!

Definately looking a a few S3's and waiting for a decent one!

yup i have JBS map.... progressive when compared to the REvo...... mopre useable in the revs yet midrange theres nothing in it pace wise....... tried and tested ;)

Olly have you been on SCN latley and seen the jetex filter thread?

Joined SCN ages ago, never really use it tbh!

Any chance of a link to the thread

Cheers for that, interesting read! I've always thought a cone filter would suck in hot air from the engine, reducing power! There seems to be a lot of conflicting info about!

Well tbh thats true in some respects, if you sat in heavy traffic and then boot it the car will bog down until its receieved cooler air but once moving and if you have a sufficent cold air feed i cant see why you'd lose power, especialy if useing say a jaab heat sheild or similar.

If your in the Peterborough area I'd go for the custom map at Jabba, Mike at Jabba really knows his stuff, obviously being biased but the torque and delivery is brilliant...

Ps, If you do take the Jabba route then make sure you have shell V-power in the tank and Mike will map it accordingly :)

Dani at the moment your airbox only sucks in via the sealed cold air feed, introduce a cone, you will get cold air on the move from a cold air feed, but you will also introduce heat from the engine and that heat pump - the KO4

read on in the thread some one has made up a heat shield and is also selling them, i have just fitted a bmc but wish i had of seen that link before hand

You dont kev, they want a 170 quid for the filter and sheild, better off buying a sheild from jabba and the cone off bill.

thats weird cos im sure Glen tested it as direct as it could have been, as in RR'd with airbox and then without a filter full stop with no power gains.....

My vote for revo! But in fairness I have no experience of amd,
Matt

Who knows with dyno lottery eh , :)

it was all done on the same day same RR same conditions mate...any anomolies would show under those conditions ;)

Which remap would be better for motorway driving? See,I only use my S3 at the weekends for either driving around town or visiting my girlfriend at uni (Ramsgate,Kent to Roehampton,London).I usually sit on the motorway at about 80-90mph,and get about 30mpg. Would a remap affect this or does it only really affect fuel economy when pedals to the metal? Sorry for hyjacking op.

Well how come the vag com results show a 10bhp increase? Im not saying vag coms bang on correct but it cant be 10bhp out, a few yes but not 10.

just been out for a drive in mine since fitting the bmc blimey it has made a difference or the cars just running well today, spool up is so much quicker the tc light kept flikering on whilst boosting in 1st and 2nd, i shall do some logging tommorow night to see if i have any gs improvements

Funny you say that kev, ive heard the BMC are supposively the most restrictive.

yeah i saw someone mention that on sc but its definantly better then std still imo im yet to do maf readings though as the weather has been poo, it just lets the turbo spool up so much quicker not sure what its like when running through a complet gear though

Sound, youll have to just post the logs when you get chance kev.

Dani what do you believe..... a manual rolling road test with test conditions or a computer that uses calculations based on theoretical figures ie air flow, boost etc etc.... its not hard to confuse a sensor....rolling road is independent ;)

Thanks for the kind words and recommendation. :salute:

Your welcome, credit where credit is due.
I'm hoping to bring my A4 into you in the new year and have that remapped. So finger crossed i'll see you soon, haha (if i can clear the funds with my other half)

(if i can clear the funds with my other half)

My other half doesn't even know about my remap! I just got up early one saturday morning and told her I was going to work for some overtime.... came back a few hours later with a smile on my face :racer:

If you have a joint account she can check you're stuffed though :banghead:
