Turbo/boost controller

So basically I have this mate who keeps banging on about getting a turbo/boost controller for my car saying it will make a load of difference, mostly he is full of **** so im hesistant to believe him. What exactly does a boost controller do and is it something I should concider for my a3? Excuse my lack of knowledge

Your mates not full of it as such he's just advising very old school methods. Newer cars (like your A3) that electronicly monitor boost pressure don't have much more to give before the ecu says no and cuts in. If the ecu has been altered (chipped/mapped) more boost can be used as long as the fuel/ignition can be matched to suit. Short answer is don't try to tamper with the boost on your A3 get it remapped if you want more power.

This would result in the ecu throwing a mardy and limp mode .

The early A3 doesnt have a MAP sensor so a small amount of boost can be added, however the fueling will be wrong and the car will more likely just eat the turbo due to it overspinning
