A3 T-Sport a Variable Vane Turbo?

Hi,

Can someone please confirm to me whether a 2000 Audi A3 1.8 T-Sport Quattro has a variable Vein Turbo or not?

That's ok because I've been looking at a diesel engine transplant since reading the "smoked by a polo" thread

Porsche use this type of turbo on more recent 911's IIRC... helps eliminate lag and provides low down torque that bigger turbos can't do while still producing good flow for higher end power and torques...

BMW use a belt and braces method to achieve similar results by having 2 turbos, small for low down then the biggy kicks in for high end... same end game, different approaches...
