First of all is that thing in my boot behind the light a loudspeaker? (97 a3) i'm assuming it is.

I'm looking to change my standard (gamma) TAPE player to an aftermarket head unit. was just wondering about the standard loudspeaker in the boot (behind the headlight), does this just go through the standard ISO connector or is it a separate cable?

oh and whilst were on the topic, will i need a fascia or is the standard already a single din?

p.s i thought this was model specific so i haven't posted it in the ICE section

dunoo about the rest, but you will need a facia, audi's is wider than a single din.

The thing in the boot behind the rear light is a subwoofer (and I use that term quite wrongly). It has it's own amp, which also powers the rear speakers. In order to integrate a new HU with it you will need an RCA input adapter (PC9-404). This plugs into the rear pre-outs of your new HU and then connects to the non standard mini-ISO connector on the Audi loom. Without it you will have no rear speakers or subwoofer. You will have to fade to rear quite a bit as your new HU will have at least twice the power powering the front speakers ove the feeble 2 x 20w rear amp.

You will also need an antenna amp adapter:

Thanks alot mate, although, the rear adapter says its for the BOSE set up, which i definitely do not have, will this still be ok for mine?

Yes, it's incorrectly described. There are no Bose systems that are rear amplified
