Odd feeling on lift off

Well the title tells it all really, i noticed this start last night.

If i am at full throttle in second gear and lift off around 4.5-5K rpm, the revs either stay there for a short while then drop, or the shoot up a little then drop giving a strange feeling in the car (feels like you have just braked then accelerated temporarily.

I didn't notice any odd noises but it was raining and hard to hear anything.

I hope my description makes sense, and someone could perhaps solve the problem?

Or maybe all S3's do it and i havent noticed before

I wuld never have found out about the clutch switch unless you had said, thank you.

I have just taken it out and pulled the plunger right out to re set it. Many scratched knuckles later, after a test drive it doesn't seem to jump as many rpm as it did on gear change, although it does seem to pulse a very small amount (less than 30 rpm) could there be anything else causing this?
