    size of tyres

    whats the biggest tyre you can get on an S3 without needing spacers atm i have 225 x 45 17" would 235mm or 245mm fit ok?

    The S3 is 'over tyred' as it is. Its more a case of getting the wheel width and offset right as a rule.

    A couple of members on here have put bigger stuff on A3's IIRC, but not worth the agro/expense IMO.

    18" wheels, ET33-35 with 225/40/18's will give you the best compromise, I run 15mm rear and 10mm front spacers on 18x8 ET33 RSTT's.

    I was just looking at wheels on ebay not bothered about width just seen some with 235 tyres on them i'm just after a set of 18's to replace my 17's

    I have just switched from 225/45/17 p6000s down to 215/40/17 eagle f1s and by god they are so much better and cheaper. they roll far less more grip everyones a winner

    Why?

    The extra grip is probably from the make of tyre. You've in fact got less rubber on the road. Less flex in side wall will give marginally better turn in etc

    But, you now have a smaller wheel circumference meaning your speedo is reading out (you'll be going faster than your speedo says)!
