Was just a random thought after a beer or 3 last night,
What made people pick the S3?
Was it people looking for quality with a little power?
Hoping for respect from the mk4 golf boys?
A natural upgrade from a golf or something like?
Is audi still "posh"??

my VR6's tailgate was in need of attention and it was smoking a bit when cold so I bit the bullet.never told anyone just turned up in my beauty.
"posh" !! heaven forbid

I picked an S3 because of the looks and all round quality over other brands that I have owned ie ford's and vauxhal's and a VW.
I also have owned a VR6 which was good, but I didnt like the amount fuel it drank, even when driving slow!!

S3 all they way for me, I dont want any other car at the moment.

had a 225 TT a few years back, replaced with an S-line 2.0tfsi A3. have missed the quattro and firmer ride so have just picked up a 2003 S3 to replace it with :sly:

Well some posts on here regarding cars such as honda or vauxhal seem to imply people think they are a cut above.
I went for the audi as i too had a golf vr6 but mine was mint and had a stage 2 supercharger on, It did 305bhp ! i realy loved it, however it went tail happy when somebody pulled out on me ! I went sideways into a field hit a tree. a wall and rolled.
In short scared me. i wanted 4wd to try and keep me a bit safer. That and ive always liked VAG cars... it was either R32 golf or S3. the R32 was still too expensive for how slow it was out of the box... so along came the S3

I went for the s3 due to the 4wd drive and in thinking it was going tobe a fast no maintenance hassle free car. How wrong i was!

I wanted something sure-footed, strong and 4wd to give me some confidence back after writing my ITR off in a big way.
Overall, I loved it...only sold it as it was a bit boring to drive hard and I had the chance to get something a bit silly.

i like the look of it! wanted a vag, dont like golf mk4s that much. really common. seats are nice, but dont really mlike the older shapes on them, and for the fact of it being an audi.

Don't actually own an S3, but.....

I've always had Golfs in the past - so I'm a bit of a "VAG-man"!!!! I wanted something similar but also wanted a car with 4WD or RWD. I like the R32 but wanted more of a "sleeper" - hence why I opted for an A3Q over an S3 in the end.

Something that to the untrained eye looks pretty normal and then..................BAM!!!

My car's de-badged with a totally blacked-out front grill and looks like a totally standard A3 - in a few months (when stage 1 is complete) it'll be alot of fun p***ing people off!!

lol yer im thinking of debadging mine..but atm it aint exactly proper fast atm,, beat some vauxal vectra that looked fast though..mines slow so doubt it was !

when i was looking for my next car after my corsa which i used to build up no claims etc i wanted someting either rwd or 4wd/quattro, also my options were limited as it had to be a well built car with nice trim and looks also a rare model (i like to be different form the crowd) so preferably german made and under 10k, so golf r32 at the time was at my limit and seemed more expensive for a more common car, honda s2000 but insurance was way to expensive, tt bit to plasticy inside and to common, m3 bit to expensive and insurance was to much, also considered a vauxhall vx220 but had to be the turbo model but they were a bit expensive to and not overly practical for parking on the drive, so opted for the s3 which had to be imola yellow

ive only ever seen one s3 in my life. havnt seen another quattro yet either. only the 1.8t's 1.6 etc.

had a crx that I loved but was getting too much keeping it looking nice and after my mates got a TT and R32 then I just went S3 also fits family in if needed to

had a corsa for my 1st car, after blowing it up twice in 7 month i got my 1st Audi which was a A3 SE 1.8 which had to do as i couldnt afford the S3 at the time, but i was determained i would own one had that for a couple of year to get a few more NCB then i got my A3 1.8t had that for 10month then i realised i could afford to run and insure a S3 so went out an got one :)

I was test driving all sorts, R32's ford focus RS, honda civic type r's Mk 5 golf but it was the only car that when I looked at it it put a smile on my face, I know its not the quickest but it is the best looking!

Guessing your s3 is costing you aswel then! Haha.

Has been, hopefully its calmed down a bit now, except some tw*t drove into my wing mirror and smashed the glass. not best pleased, yet another expense!:banghead:

I got an A3 as I didnt fancy spending a load more insuring an S3, plus a couple of years ago a decent S3 was out of my price range.

Got the A3 as it had all the toys, black leather, nice colour, low miles and a nice place to be. I was set on a Seat Cupra but prefer the quality and feel of the interior of the A3. The Seat was pretty low rent inside so it was a no brainer really. Plus my A3 was only one owner and only had 40K on the clock. Everything else I looked at was higher miles. I dont like the shape of the Mk4 Golf either as much as the A3, there's less about too.

I was actually after an Evo6 or Scooby STI, but the insurance quotes was £2k for the Evo and £1500 for the Scoobydoo!
But a regular customer of mine turned up in a Green V reg example and started telling me what a great car it is, german version of a Scooby etc., so went for a testdrive the next day and got myself this Black example which I've had for 8 years! Insurance for this was £700 odd back then, and I was 24, so pretty reasonable at the time.

i had my saxo vtr turbo befor the qts and i loved it to bits and thats why i still have it even thow it the rods didnt like the boost too much after all french cars are nt over built like the audi and thats what i love about it, so easyly tuned good mpg when you need it and power when you wont the fun and when you need it, plus with the saxo it was like 100% all the time no power off boost and 175bhp the rest of the time wet or dry and fwd was fun but not everyday the audis bit soo much better quitaly is one of the keys to the audi i think

had an A3 1.8T for 6 years....loved it.... tried focus ST, Mazda, A4, S2000, CTR and a couple others...nothing really did it for me in build quality and sure footedness.... had to be S3 and ive absolutely no regrets

hardest thing is thinking what im gonna replace it with when that all important day comes

I had a mk3 golf gti 16v, Loved the car, but needed a bit of work and drunk petrol like anything. For me when i drove the S3 nothing handled aswell, made driving fun again! Plus has been on one of my cars to have list!:arco:

I wanted one ever since the old Gran Torismo days and so when i was looking for a new car had to have one

I had wanted a Scooby or Evo for years, but when I finally got round to looking properly (newly free and single again!!) I realised I did not have an urge to wear a baseball cap backwards.

R32 & M3 way too dear on fuel, and Mk4/5 Golf Gti was somewhat underwhelming.

An ex-school friend (now a Tornado pilot) had one from new about 8 years ago, and he loved his. Took one out for a test-drive, then spent 3 months, and IIRC 16 viewings to find a good one, at a good price. Now been happy for ~16 months and 12k miles.

Nothing else in the same price bracket with comfort, reasonable zip, toys and style.

Just hope the chavs keep away from them for a while yet...

Cheers,

Had an A3 1.6 first which i liked because of the style and when i wanted more power there was a few cars to choose from which were EK9 Civic (Way to deer for what you get), TT (Maybe if i batted for the other team), A4 1.8T (too big for me) and the S3 which was perfect!, Got my mum saying it look's the same? Now after me and my Dad pointing out for a while she knows that visibly its nothing like the A3.

Being an avid Audi fan I've always wanted an Audi. But I chose the S3 for the following reasons:

-Styling
-4WD
-Exceptionally quick
-Exclusiveness because there was less of them on the roads
-Well equipped unlike other cars in its class (mine was anyway - although I couldn't work out why parking sensors were necessary on a hatch)
-Bling bling mirrors (ok, that was a bonus and not the reason why I got it)
-Individuality almost like no other car :p
-Practicality
-Exceptional build quality inside and out
-Reasonable fuel cost

I kept the S3 for a year until after I was made redundant, I changed cars as a result of this. I miss the S3 although the A4 isn't a bad car, has it's own merits and it wasn't meant to be sporty but a comfy cruiser. I'm comtemplating in buying back the S3.

I wanted an S3 years back when I bought my A3 but couldn't afford one, thought they looked the dogs...had my A3 remapped which I had for about 3 years, really thought about strapping a larger turbo to it but I knew that in the long run I wouldn't be happy till I had the S3, would be one of those things that would have eaten away at me until I owned one. Mine actually came up 4 miles from home with 40k on the clock, 1 owner and black leather so I had to check it out, me and the missus were then going out for the day when I said I've just got to have a quick look at this car :) half an hour the deposit was down and it was mine... Tehe :):yahoo:

I like my vags, quite fancied a motor with the 1.8T engine in it, I wanted awd and I loved the look of the S3 in and out.

I liked the way it was so discreet yet can take most things off the line! and accelleration at any speed. The best thing i thought though was it's as fast as almost any hot hatch out there but has all the toys thrown in as well! best of both worlds :)

Always been a VAG fan, then one day a mate of mine came to see me in a BT S3 a few years ago, told me to take it for a spin and "give it some!!!"

So I did and ever since that day, I promised myself I would get one and there you go, the rest is history.

got tired of throwing money at my old ford escort RS2000 4x4 and so wanted sumthing newer, always liked the look of S3's and went to look at some and bought one

I wanted an S3 for ages and finally decided to jump in and get one when I got a payrise a couple of years ago.

I was after a weekend car and an S8 was top of my list. I decided that an S8 might eat too much spare cash, so went out and bought an S3....I seem to spend at least £2k a year on it, but, I really love driving it. I won't be selling it....I will pass it on to my favourite son.
