I have heard that people reverse their DV for better sound but dont know if the sound would change with a standard DV.

if EML stands for Engine Management Light, does EML Light mean engine management Light Light?

    If so. haha.

if you want the sound, it's dead easy. sell the S3, and buy a jap car.

This just reminded me of a car I saw today, you could hear the boost valve chirp coming all the way down the road, I was expecting to see an Evo6 or Scooby of some sort to go pass....... Once the car came to view though, it was a Chav driving a bog standard Fiat Punto with an electronic chirp that goes off everytime you release the throttle. LOL!

it could of been a Punto GT ya know !

to get a louder PSSSSSTTTT replace panel filter with green cotton or similar, replace standard DV with forge/bailey item & remap probably as loud as you will get without BT.

Never heard of reversing the DV not sure if its safe either

    Think before you post.

Reversing the DV is 100% safe, and just changes the speed at which opens, and the boost pressure which it can withhold before being forced open.

All is it is a valve that opens to let air through.

in the 'standard' orientation charge pressure pushes onto the side of the valve, and the valve is pulled open by the vacuum force on gear changes.

when reversed, charge pressure goes into the 'bottom' of the valve, pushing directly against the piston. This is where the spring tension is more important, as the piston is held shut against boost by the spring tension, and the small positive pressure from the vacuum line in the top of the DV. in this case, when you back off, the vacuum line goes to negative pressure, and the boost on the bottom of the piston instantly forces it open.

Running the DV backwards gives a quicker response, and you'll find it's 'dumping' much more often, and it's a different sound, as it's more short and sharp. Running it backwards tends to be fine on standard cars, although when running high boost, even with a yellow spring it'll still leak over about 18psi.

closest i can get to that sound is the noise of my intestine emptying in a horribly fastish rate into the pan after a long night on the curry.....

why you would want the psssst sound at all on any car completely throws me, its sounds cheap and nasty..... nevermind using one on a german car..... each to their own but IMO you need ya head testing

Prawn, would you recommend reversing a standard DV if it give better throttle response, and is it 100% safe for the engine as a lot of 1.8 T on you tube reverse them.

Forgive me if this is a dumb ? but when they say their DV is reversed doesn't that mean the charge pipe and the pipe that comes from the TIP change places, effectively making the DV sit horizontal instead of vertical.

Im no chav or attention seeker but bit more sound from my DV would be nice

Nono, I think I would recognise a Punto GT, this was chirping at low speed, and it was chirping loud, despite no turbo spool up sound lol, was quite amusing I have to admit... like if I was 17 again, I'd think it was a genuine turbo haha.

You're right about the positioning of it, but it doesn't give a better throttle response, just a better DV response. so it opens quicker and releases pressure faster seemingly.

No real advantage to it at all. just a different sound.

aw right, thanks for the info. Not sure weather its safe for the engine but might change it around later for bit, see if I notice any changes.

it's absolutely 100% safe. you just might find you loose a bit of boost top end.

Lol, Im sure if he was driving a 3.2T quattro he would move a little faster.....
I like the chatter on a Jap car because it suits it but on a german car its a no go unless its a chav in a skoda with a useless 130 psssst conversion! Im guessing it adds 10BHP aswell!
