Oils - 503.01 vs 503.00 ???

Hi there,

Well, my wife has a TT 180bhp and I have a S3. The TT came with VW oil in the boot and I've been
using this to top up both cars. This ran out last night, so I went in to get some more from the dealer today (it's ten minutes drive from the house). When I get there, they tell me that the TT needs to use 503.00 oil and the S3 uses the 503.01 oil, both of which are 0W30 oils.

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between them ? And will I have caused any problems using the 503.00 oil in my S3 ?

503.01 is for the AVS service (for the S3 and 225 TT)

503.00 is for other engines

The S3 should be using 503.01 regardless. I think the 180 engine will use 503.01 if it's on AVS and 503.00 if it isn't (as previously stated). See this post about chaing oil for a list of approved oils that meet these specs.
