hi, my first post!. i have recently brought a 1.6 auto from a auction. it is ony the standard model, not even SE. but its an a3, and still looks great, black 3 door with central locking, however i need to know if it has REMOTE central locking or not. as i said i brought it from the auction, so its a possibility it might have been misplaced by previous owner/aution house. so at the moment i have 2 lock the car using the 1 key i got with it which is really annoying. can anyone shed any light? i would have thought being a premium car, even the base model would have remote central locking. anyway, have already put 2 amps and 2 subs in, 6x9's in the parcel shelf, and soon taking taking delivery of a phoenix gold amp (£299 in uk) & £370 front speakers (yes, £370 just 4 two front speakers), altho i ordered them from america & cost me only £275 for the lot, that includes delivery, taxes etc brand new. isnt uk a rip off? them uk prices are the internet prices as well (cheap). the actually rrp price in the shops would be a lot higher, possibly by about £150. so something that costs almost £850 in uk cost me £275 (minus the delivery, commission to money transfer company and the goods themselves actually came to only £170). anyway, will also be lowering the car, puttin 19" chrome spinners on, tinting out the windows, possible max power feature car!!! dont worry max power haters, it isnt going 2 be like one of them tacky cars these boy racers do, i hate that 'sticking a 2ft high spoiler on a escort, or putting a roll cage in a 1.1 metro stuff. all my mods will be strictly classy!! will post pics soon when its all done. anyway, long first post, must go. please help with the remote locking query. thanks

Hi welcome to the forum!

If it has central locking and you use the key...both your 2 doors and trunk are supposed to lock/unlock when you lock/unlock the car with the key....thats central locking.

Surely with all that hardware in your car and along with your future mods of 19" chrome spinners etc, it would be wise to invest in a trick alarm and getting remote central locking in the process.

Not meaning to take the p1ss or anything but you completely contradict yourself as you mention classy and spinner in the same sentence /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh_roll.gif Max power is possibly the WORST magazine EVER... its just awful. Go for stlish, subtle mods that enchance the car not take away from it.

Not All models came with RCL... You can, however, buy RCL kits for cars that didnt come with it. You can buy this from www.vagparts.com

Email or call them as they dont list everything on their site (you can get absolutely ANY OE part from them at good prices!)

rich,
i know wot your sayin, like i said i hate all that stupid max sutff as well. and my car will look classy, stylish, maybe not so subtly tho. i personally think spinners or just normal chromes do look classy, if not then why is that the choice for so many upmarket cars like X5's, beemers, mercs, ferraris escalades etc. was it u who had the silver a3 with the bodykit? that was wicked, if it was yours. thats the sort of stylish look i mean, only difference being that my alloys will b different. thanks 4 info on rcl by the way everyone.

Yeah mine is a silver one with RS4 style front bumper .etc

The reason that many X5's .etc have these (mainly stateside) is cos they are driven by gangstas! Its the look they go for over there, but rarely works so well this side of the pond.

How about some deep dish alloys? You could get dark spokes (anthracite kinda colour) and a highly polished rim. That would look really good. Classy, not TOO subtle yet a bit *bling*

Rich

yea your right, it dont work here cos ppl do it to crappy cars instead of posh motors! but a3 is a posh motor, it is black and 3 door. your on the right track with the deep dish, but i think they r a lot more expensive and the rims need to be wider as well. also i think they only look good on bigger coupes like the 3 series etc, not on smaller hatchbacks. but that is the sort of thing i am looking 4. i have to respray my car as well, as a lot of key marks/chips. so i might just do that when i get a body kit and do it all together. i dont want a full kit, just side/front/back skirts, just to make the ends a bit lower. will post a pic of my mates a3 in america lata 2day 2 show u lot wot sort of thing i mean.

M8 wat year is the A3?

I think as you bought it from auction you may have not got all the keys with it :S

the year is 1997 r reg. as i said, it only has one key. i know some cars have a key and the remote is seperate, like on my last car. however some makes like mercedes, the rcl switched are built into the actual key fob itself, so you dont have a seperate remote. so if this is the case with audi, then i know i probably dont have it cos there are not buttons on my key fob. thanks 4 replys.

1.8TS,
its from america but its being sold from the uk, so normal shipping costs. obviously some guy has imported them from america by batch load.

AJ,
i dont know too much technical bout alarms, but i suppose it must be connected to imm somehow. i havent got this alarm yet, but my cousins had it 4 about 3 months now, on his citreon. it works excellent, had no problems. u can remotly start your car from about 100m, then when u get to car u just open doors in normal way, and the car stays on regardless of opening/closing doors. this is very handy for mornings, to warm your engine up b4 u get in and drive it, also to get the cabin to good temp as well, specially in winter. also looks cool as well, u can scare some ppl with it!! regards thatcham, no i dont think it is approved, but it is just as good as any clifford alarm, only reason its so cheap is cos its from america. this is the exact alarm they used on MTV's pimp my ride.
as i said b4 the other good thing is the lcd display with a pic of a car, when you start your car the wheels on the display spin so u know its on, and if sumone tries to break into car, say thru drivers door, then the drivers door on display will light up.

recomdos
lol no, if the car is in gear then as security measure the remote start wont work.
