Also, I think I heard a mention of a "haldex kit" somewhere that contains all the bits you need at a cheaper price, anyone heard of this and got a part number for it?

Found the fuel filter part number, it's 1J0201511A.

This site http://www.vwspares.co.uk/a3filters.php has a good few bits and they deliver to UK and Ireland.

Don't forget timing belt, water pump, tensioner etc unless it's already been done recently. It's every 80k or 5 years so is due even if it was done back in 2004.

Got the timing etc done last year when I bought it, just to be safe! So that's good for a while...although I'm putting about 12K miles a year on it. I do an oil change every 6 months.

Anyone know of the haldex kit? Or do you have to buy the bits on their own?

Also, any other sources for getting these parts cheap online?

I'd get everything from GSF personally, no point buying cheap replica parts

I would say 60k miles or 5 years, which ever comes sooner, is more realistic for the 1.8T

I've been using parts made by Fram on my S3 bought from my local motorfactors, I have access to a trades account there. Don't know if you calss them as cheap replica parts, but I've not had any problems with the parts at all.
My Cambelt kit was a Gates one also, who manufacture the OE Audi cambelt kit, but I got it a whole lot cheaper from Carspares, as it didn't have the 'Audi' logo on it.
