    Hello "danger S3"

Hmmm i think that they dont give a S**T TBH. Did like the free coffee though

In my letter they didnt even grant me the good will gesture! Same as yourself as saying that there had been some re-spray work done at some point but not on the affected area.

    Thanks for your support Mike.

I guess it is update time. The preliminary hearing took place yesterday and went along predicatable lines.

The outcome is that the full hearing is going to be scheduled for the end of April. In the meantime my car is to be inspected by an independant bodywork specialist, that both sides agree on, to determine the exact cause of the corrosion.

Can anyone recommend such a specialist (that is not VW friendly - obviously!) in the Surrey / Berkshire / Hampshie border area?

I'm taking mine to the paint shop next week to get it inspected. I went to Portsmouth Audi who were just rude and I was left leaving very annoyed. The warranty member of staff came out, I explained I had rust on rood rails to which the reply was
"You do know we don't have a body shop here" - No, sorry my crystal ball wasn't working. Now have a 20-30 mile drive to the nearest Audi approved body shop!
After that, I asked if it was a problem taking it in next week as needed to get time off work, I was asking if it would be rejected because it took too long for me to report it. The answer given...
    "Better get there quick then"

Anyone else had issues with Audi customer service? Previously, I thought it second to none!

Complaint to Audi will be sent following result of inspection and warranty claim.

To the above, yes both roof rails done. I was expecting the 70/30 offer but they didn't argue. got a copy of the receipt when I picked it up and Audi charges for the job were a fair whack.

Just a shame I had to get the car towed out due to yet another dead clutch.

had the same problem with my a3 when it was 9 years old took it to my local audi dealers who photographed the corrosion o bth roof rails and the bottom of the drivers door they sent the claim to audi uk who promptly refused it on the grounds that it hadnt been serviced properly so i then submitted my service book showing that the car had always been serviced by audi themselves and it that was the the case then audi were at fault for not doing the servicing properly then came another excuse they said "oh we see your not the original owner " the warrenty doesnt cover second users ....what bull i said i though the car was covered by a 12 anti corrosion warranry not the owner they simply refused and put the phone down

When i bought my car, i was told it had already been in for this common rust issue on the roof rails. Where abouts do they usually go? I'm going to have a good detailed look if its still covered under 12 year anti corrosion warranty. Can't recall anything in my service history relating to the warranty claim for paintwork.

    Hi ci-ryder.

You seem to be one of the lucky few (at least with regards getting your corrosion fixed - sorry to hear about your clutch issues).

I've PM'd you to see if you can help my cause.

YEAR AND VEHICLE MODEL; 2001 A3

DETAILS OF RUST FOUND; bubbling on both roof rails (not on roof but on the outside of the rails)

TIME TO WARRANTY CLAIM FROM FIRST NOTICING IT; 1 Week

HOW LONG YOU HAD OWNED THE VEHICLE AT THIS TIME; 1 Week

    DEALER APPROACHED; Portsmouth Audi

OUTCOME (APPROVED, REFUSED); Refused full claim, 70/30 offered in my favour. Still £265.33 though!

    REASON FOR REFUSAL; Reason was that vechile is more than 3 years old. Instantly phoned Audi customer care ( 0800 699 888) and explained my situation which includes ;

    - Bad customer service from dealership
    - 80 mile round trip for someone to take photos
    - Paint claim refused but I am claiming corrosion

DATE OF CLAIM; 1st March 2012

At present I am in discussions with Audi to try and get car repaired under full warranty - Will keep it posted.

Edit - Gemma from Audi called back and told me that whats happened is when the roof rails were put in place it has cut through the lacuer into the paint but NOT into the primer (tell us something we dont know) and so therefore it is not corrosion but a paint defect which is only covered for 3 years.I think it's total bull but they won't budge from 70%. Not sure it's worth £265 on a 11 year old car?

Anyone else had a 70% offer and managed to get it to 100% yet?

The Audi A3 does have a rust issue. At the bottom exterior of every door you will find a plastic strip that is screwed on to the door. Over the years of ownership and day-to-day usage, it is possible that the screws cause a rust spot to break out and eventually seep upwards towards the visible area of your car's door. I have a 2006 Audi A3 Sportback that is:

    1) meticulously maintained,
    - washed reasonably often at every 2 - 3 weeks,
    - parked indoors 90% of the time,
    - oil sprayed every 12 - 18 months,
    2) 100% accident- and/or bodywork- free
    3) 100% original paint from Audi factory in Germany

and despite all that, all 4 of my doors are showing rust spots at said spot. I have gone to my local Audi dealer, Audi Midtown in Toronto, Canada, and the Service Department Manager Tony has worked with me to file a claim to replace all 4 doors under the Audi 12-year Rust Perforation Warranty. The reason for the claim is since this was:

    1) an issue that will 100% lead to perforation of my prized-possession's doors within the next 6 years
    2) repainting, according to Tony, will only be masking the rust which will come back

I cannot get myself to let go of my beautiful car yet. I had a 2000 Toyota Camry that had bodywork done due to a previous accident, and the areas which had bodywork were a rusty mess after a couple of years, whereas the non-touched areas were extremely clean. This led me to conclude that as long as I drive safe and be kind to my car, that it will reward me by looking good for at least 12 years. Hence my choice to purchase a car that may have been a bit more expensive to buy and maintain than a Toyota or a Honda, but was an absolute joy to look at, drive in, and ride in - characteristics that a not a Toyota nor Honda could ever exhibit.

Alas, now I might have to prematurely replace this car because if Audi Canada, for some reason, decides that I don't deserve the warranty coverage, then I would have to either:

    1) let the car rot and basically put an expected death date on my car
    2) repaint the car doors every year, which is extremely expensive and non-sensible considering Audis, when maintained as well as I have, should not visibly rust for at least 12 years. It has only been 6 years so parting with my car due to rust, that was not supposed to arrive until 12 years, is tragic.
    3) replace the car doors now or later, which will probably cost around 5 - 6 thousand Canadian dollars. Still very expensive and non-sensible considering Audis as mentioned above when maintained as well as I have, should not visibly rust for at least 12 years.

Tony mentioned that it will take around 2 weeks for Audi Canada to respond with an acceptance of the claim, or rejection. Wish me luck. I will let you guys know what happens in 2 weeks.

An update to my situation. Audi of Canada has approved replacing all 4 of my doors. Bringing the car into Audi Midtown on Tuesday, then they will apparently need 4 - 5 days to work on it. I'm hoping they really are replacing them and not just paint them over. If I'm promised 4 new doors, then I expect 4 new doors. I will update you guys again after I get the car back.

Audi of Canada definitely rocked it this time!

OUTCOME (APPROVED, REFUSED); Approved! The assessor questioned about the paint being thicker than normal using his reader but it was the same all over the car. No visible signs or a respray (he went over it with a fine toothcomb) eventually he came to the conclusion that it must have been a factory respray and approved the repair at a 70/30 cost at approx cost of £300.

    DATE OF CLAIM; 01/02/12
Car went into Glasgow Audi today 17/04/12 to get the roof rails done. They're very kindly repairing a small dent on my passanger door into the bargain!

Got a free courtesy car while they were doing the work.

Over all good service so far!

    Update Time

Hi guys Sorry I haven't been able to update you all in a little while a number of non-car related things have got in the way.. The independent inspection finally took place today. It will be about a week until I get the details. Court date was booked for early next month, but both sides are keen to delay a little while in order to digest the report. Hopefully the full hearing & judgement will be sorted by the middle of May - 9 months after first presenting the car to the dealership. Richard

Got my car back today. Turned out the rust was worse than expected but the price was the same. Paid £294 all in.
For that I got the roof fixed obviously, a courtesy car, a dent in the door repaired and a full detail and valet. The car came out like new LOL! I even got a tour round the workshop while I was waiting for the guy to finish the detailing, which was interesting to see.

Hi - Yes I got the report.

I have to be a little careful in how much I disclose as negotiations have finally started but this could end up back in court.

Got mine booked for inspection on Saturday, I thought it was free? How comes people are paying a percentage of the repair? I have a 99 A3 Quattro with minor rust on one side of the roof rail, anyone know if I will have to split the cost?

A full independent paint inspection and your dealer taking some paint thickness measurements and a few photos to send off to Audi are very different, but I would expect you'll be paying all of the cost as you're out of the 12 year corrosion warranty.

    Car: 2001 Audi S3

Took the car into Peterborough Audi a few weeks ago and just found out that they will repair the roof rails on the 70 / 30 deal. Still about £300 quid though. Is it worth it!?

I also have a little rust appearing on the boot (piece that the handle is in) that is worse.

If I don't go ahead now I guess that I won't be able to in the future as Audi HQ will know I know about the problem.....

Sorry if this has been covered already but when I had mine done the auid rep said that for ANY roof rail repairs, boths sides and the roof must be painted, even if there is only corrosion on one side, this is as a preventative measure and he printed out a 30 page document for the sprayers to work to. So for £300 you should be getting both rear quarters and the roof painted.... a good deal really. As for the rear number plate plinth (is that what you are referring to? ) Mine was corroded but not covered under warranty as it is classed as trim. Hope this helps
